hi i have currently asus gtx770 i5 2500k cpu seasonic x650 gold power supply 16 gb ram. i want to upgrade my gpu as new games these days demand more power i want to be future proof for atleast 5 years please guide thanks
 
What type of performance are you expecting in 5 years from a video card you buy today? Keep in mind even the most powerful cards out now are already over a year old. Also, your CPU would already be holding you back even today.

You got 5 years out of the GTX 770 albeit with reduced settings, so you'll probably be able to get 5 years out of its equivalent. That's the GTX 1080, or the upcoming (date TBD) GTX 2080. Considering the GTX 1080 is already 2 years old, if you get it today you might only be satisfied for 4 years.

Though you may want to reconsider you're tactic of buying upper midrange and hanging on for 5 years. It'd make more sense to jump onto the GTX xx60 series every gen, and resell. GTX 1060 -> 2060 -> 3060. Based on history, the upcoming (date TBD) GTX 2060 (or 1160, name is also TBD) will be approximately as fast as the GTX 1080 for less money.

But your CPU will hold you back in many games. Even if you can get it to around 4.5Ghz then you'll run into some issues with games wanting more than 4 threads. A new build with an i7 8700k should be much better in 5 years (6 cores, 12 threads, higher IPC and clocks).

I don't know what to tell you. If you want a GPU to possibly last you 5 years, your best chance is actually the GTX 1080 Ti. If you cannot get that, then a GTX 1080. There are no alternatives other than paying a fortune for the very fast Titan V.

Again, it may be better to buy cheaper cards more frequently, and then resell the old one. GTX 1060 today, then go 2060, then 3060 (or 1160 and 1260, name is unknown). A GTX 1080 Ti is overkill at 1920x1080 60Hz and may be for several years - even the GTX 1080 is. You're wasting money today so that in 3-5 years it can still be usable.
 
As others have mentioned it's probably better to get a mid range card and upgrade more often, rather than buying a high end card now and expecting it to last 5+ years. It's a particularly bad time to buy high end graphics cards due to the price inflation caused by cryptomining, and the impending release of new gaming cards from Nvidia(should be released before the end of the year).

At 60Hz 1080p I think you will be fine for a while with the 2500k, particularly if you have it overclocked to 4.5GHz or more. Perhaps you could pick up a cheap second hand 2600k or 3770k for a boost in thread count.
 
A 1060 ti 6 GB is a good match for a 2500K and will let you play most current games at 1080p.

For 5 years, you'd want to upgrade the CPU, motherboard, RAM to something like an i7-8700 with 16 GB DDR4 then add a GTX 1080 ti. That is going to cost a lot of money.

I saw a review of a GTX 1080ti, and it only had one star rating.

Wait a minute, now that I think about it, that one star was gold, and it must have been an award.....or something. 😉

Poor 'ole plain GTX 1080, it must be the redheaded stepchild of the Nvidia 10 series family. 😛
 
The General Hardware forum here is the best place to ask about a full set of parts.

Besides telling us your budget, saying yes or no to overclocking the CPU makes a big difference for what parts we will say to get.

Well, anytime a person buys anything from shady sellers (both individual sellers and never-heard-of-before "businesses"), there's that very old Latin quote....Emptor Caveat....."Buyer Beware". 🙂

Seriously, if anyone is going to drop some coins on cards like the GTX 1080 or 1080ti, the smart person would only buy from leave-no-doubt sellers and businesses.

I was just trying to be funny with my first post, as I have never heard someone say the GTX 1080 wasn't a great card for 1080p gaming with details cranked pretty high up there. Even at 1440p gaming it would be a great card. 😛

lol i know, i was trying to throw sarcasm back at you saying the only 1 star 1080ti, is a fake 1080ti.

The only person that would say a 1080ti is 1 star is someone who didnt have the funds to cash on one, or someone who has a Titan V, and is way beyond us mere mortals.

Also i would never picked up a used 1080 on ebay.

Its most likely been mined to death, and the seller is trying to off load it while he/she still can before it kicks the bucket.

I wouldn't worry that much about it. I'm sure any smart miner would have run it at a lower power limit to save on energy usage and heat. I do F@H with my cards, some of them 24/7, and they never break 60 degrees while running them at 70% power limit. The fans also only run at 50%.

Depending on the quality of the fan they used, it might need to be replaced at some point, but that's an easy fix. 🙂

Well I spend about ~$70 to ~$100 on the motherboard itself and get at a least a midrange chipset. For the BF games to get the best performance I would go for either the Intel i7-8700 or AMD's R7-2700 CPU. GPU? That is a toughly as right now on the Nvidia side you will be paying good money for a two year old design. I consider the GTX 1060 6GB to be the minimum for demanding modern AAA games.

This most important questions are, "How much are you able and willing to spend?" Only you can answer that.

Sorry I'm still using the i5-4670 CPU with a ASRock Z87 chipset motherboard which about five years old. One piece of advice, While my recommendations are based on current benchmarks and reviews that I read and no matter how good they may be, you should do as much research on your own as you can and read many from decent sites and YouTubers.
