I've been putting this build together in my head for a month now, and I'm about to pull the trigger. The list of parts as it stands right now is...

CPU - e8500 - $190
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819115036

($20 more than the 8400, and I get the extra .5x multiplier)

Mobo - P5Q Pro - $140
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131299

(Leaves me a crossfire upgrade path)

GPU - Visiontek HD4870 - $285
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16814129113

(Asus is sold out at the egg 🙁)

RAM - Corsair 2x2gig 1066 - $150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820145197

(planning on heavy OCing, and I want blue/black RAM heatsinks)

HDD - WD 640 - $85
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16822136218

PSU - Corsair 750TX - $120
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817139006

(again, leaves me with the open crossfire upgrade path)

Case - Antec 1200 - $205
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811129043

(I think it's drop dead sexy, so sorry guys, no one is talking me out of this. Also, it happens to be on a combo deal with he P5Q Pro for another $50 off)

CPU Cooler - Zerotherm Nirvana 120 - $150
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835887011

( Needed for heavy OCing, and I hear this cooler is great and comes pre-lapped)

Optical Drives - 2x Samsung 223F - $25 each
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16827151171

AS5 and AS cleaning stuff - $12
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835100007
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835100010

(Need the cleaning stuff because I'm going to be lapping the CPU)

Total with all combo deals and $10 shipping is $1,245.47

(-$90 in Mail-In Rebates, but, lol...)

Suggestions? Did I forget anything?

Does anyone know if that dominator RAM fan messes with CPU cooling?

Drop the optical drives if you already have one, and get an external case for the one you have and just switch between computers if you plan on using 2 pc's (usb) works great for me 😀

If this computer is going to be your 24/7 pc and you want to overclock the hell out of it, go with a water-cooling setup. Other than that, its looks like a nice cookie.

Meh, no need for watercooling, that's only needed if your crazy, because aircooling is so good nowadays, you really have to throw some money at it to get a watercooling setup that is a significant stepup from a cooler like the zerotherm nirvana, tuniq tower, xigmatek or thermalright ultimate extreme.

The p5q isn't actually crossfire ready, or well, it can do crossfire, but afaik it takes a 20% performance hit compared to x38 chipsets. So you might want to spend a few bucks extra on a mobo like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813136045 Then again, you could be saving yourself some money if you decide right now if you ever want to go crossfire or not. Because you could go with a cheaper PSU, and a cheaper mobo.

Case, I think I like it as well, if I wanted a case like that, it prolly be the antec 1200, but I want a quiet case that doesn't light up my room, so I own a antec p182 😉 With the combo it's actually not THAT expensive.

Ram, you're crazy if you ask me. IF you get the rebate you're a little less crazy, but I'd still buy this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231145

My current optical so dieing, and I don't plan on having a second rig, so, I'm good with the 2 drives.

(I'd love a watercooling setup, but I have a feeling that it's way more work than you get in return, anyways, it's way more expensive. :beer🙂

That G.Skill, is it actually rated for 1000? Like, I mean, If i try to run it at that speed, it will be stable? Just seems a little inexpensive.

That Lanboy mobo is ugly as hell, idk, I saw a benchmark somewhere where the hit was like 2 fps at max, so, w/e.

EDIT: wow, http://www.tweaktown.com/artic...performance/index.html

I might just throw out the CF idea. I want the $50 combo on the pro, so i'll just cut down the PSU.....

Yes, the G.Skill will run at 1000. The increase in cost for DDR2-1066 isn't proportional to the increase in speed, just like the increase in cost for the E8500 isn't proportional to the increase in speed.

yeah, but with a locked multiplier, the $20 is a cheap .5x for the proc.

So, i'll go with he g.skill because If i really can bring the FSB to 500 it'll be up to like 4.75ghz, which won't happen, so i guess the g.skill is fine.

If you go with my build, you will have to order the items separately, as newegg doesn't allow but a single combo or coupon to occur in the same order.

Also, MS live is offering a 5.5% cashback on newegg orders.

Right. I guess my point is that your money on the processor is actually doing something, whereas that isn't the case with the RAM. I just didn't say it that way.
