New Gaming Rig

I am building a new gaming rig and this is pretty last minute but I hope to order the parts tommorow. Any advice is welcome. I may OC the processor and video card a little bit, but it probably won't be right anyway and will be very minor.

It looks like you did some research before you selected those parts. It looks like a great system and I wouldn't change a thing. The NEC ND-3550 I believe became available on newegg right after I ordered the 3540, but so far I like it. I liked my previous NEC dvd burner as well.

To the poster above, do you have anything to add to that? That Fortron 450W is amazing. It can easily handle that system and much more.

Hey, how much is left in your budget? I'm looking at PCP&C 470W Silencer and SeaSonic S12 500W. Both are hovering slightly above $100 after shipping+NJ tax if applicable.

Hmmm well I was thinking about this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817103937 but some reviews on there have stated that it doesn not carry a -5 volt or something. I honestly know nothing about PSUs though so I don't know if I need this. I am also wondering if it is worth going for an X2 3800+ so I hopefully won't have to replace the processor for a while. I am trying to keep it udner or around $1200 max and with the current components and an X2 it is $1180.

I agree, those are some very nice parts and very well matched all around. I wouldn't listen to the poster above about "wrong power supply", the Fortron 450 is a great match for those parts and should handle everything well.

I, too wonder about that power supply. A lot of people have told me its efficient, but other people say it's not good. What's the deal? It hits +12V1@18A, +12V2@18A, no PFC, and 70% efficiency for $50 dollars looks good to me.

Everything you've selected is a good solid combination, that will not break the bank.
The power supply will handle everything just fine.. and then some.. Good, strong, stable power, for a low price.. that power supply is fine

drop 3200 and get 3000. use the saved money to get DFI instead of epox mobo..
i guess the ram's decent.. i personally would never touch hitachi drives again.. but it's ur call...

Why? Drop your cpu down and pick up a 7800 GT. Overall, it'll give you much better gaming performance.

I know I actually had an Opteron 165 on backorder with Monarch but I have the feeling it's never going to come. In any case, I can't find any good prices on dual core Opterons that are instock, and I haven't really looked at single core Opterons.

I would suggest getting an Opteron 144. It overclocks better and has more cache.

Well I know the Opteron should clock higher and for gaming single core is probably the way to go, but I have never OCed anything before, and with Nvidias dual core drivers out is it a better idea to go with the Opteron single core or the 3800+ X2 for $170 more?
