New gaming PC build, need input/suggestions

you REALLY dont need a 5850 if you plan to game at 1280x1024.

i suggest you retask some of your budget to buying a better monitor.

and your powersupply is vastly overkill for the computer.

So then go with the OCZ 500W ModXStream then instead of the Corsair 750W? I don't really have much grasp on how much power I will need.

I'd like to play the current and near future games with high settings as I don't plan on upgrading this thing for a while. So you say the 5850 is overkill for a GPU? Would a 5770 better suit my needs? What if I planned to play with a higher-res on a widescreen monitor? The price difference b/w 5850 and 5770 is ~$100, and I'll gladly spend an extra $100 if it means more longevity for high-quality gaming.

I don't currently have the monitor/keyboard/mouse/speakers included here and I know they'll be a significant cost, but I plan on purchasing those later on down the road.

i'm saying a 3870 will play modern games at mid-high detail at 1280x1024 with an acceptable framerate.

i'd say a 4890. it'll play current and near future games with high detail at 1680x1050-1920x1200 or so.

this computer on the whole would do fine with a 450w ps. (actually, a 400w or less would drive it.)

dunno why you've settled on those 2 power supplies. i like the corsair, i know nothing about the OCZ.


i really dont understand spending an extra 50% to "future proof" the card, when by the time that performance is needed, new cards have come out and the cost of the upgraded card is less than the vector you just spent to get it.

Alright, I've updated the build with some recommendations I recieved from another forum. Please check it out.

I'd appreciate some input specifically on the videocard, processor, motherboard, power supply, and monitor.

Videocard - Should I downgrade from a 5850 to a 5750, 5770, or even a 4890?
Processor - Should I downgrade to an i5?
Motherboard - Would I be better off getting a P55 mobo to save some cash?
Power Supply - Just let me know what you think.
Monitor - Same as PSU.

A little bit ago I was thinking about throwing in an SSD, but I decided it wasn't very cost-effective and I might as well wait until the prices drop a bit.

Alright I've gotten some additional input from another forum... I've updated the build again and I think it's going to be the final build. I'm a little weary on the choice of video card but I think it's the most bang for the buck and at this point the most reasonable choice.

Please voice your opinions as I'm planning on making the purchase tomorrow!

A 4890 will blow away a 5770 and a 5750.

Not so keen on the Rosewill PSU. Try looking at Corsair or Antec.

corsair, antec, enermax, and seasonic (and fsp and a couple other makers) are what i stick by.

your updated list looks a bit more rounded. as patrick said, i'd stick to other brands of PSU's. I dont know much about rosewill either, aside from they make quality knockoffs of heatsinks.

another thing you might want to think about is the noise your computer will generate. you have the budget, you might look into third-party products that quiet the computer down. something like a high efficiency tower heatsink coupled with a 120mm fan, some kind of a silencer for the harddrive, etc.

oh, and WRT video cards. why would you NOT get this one?
