1. Mainly Gaming
2. 1500 - 1600 (would like best for buck w/ the exception of gpu)
3. US
4. --
5. Prefer Intel and Nvidia
6. The only things I currently have are kb/mouse
7. Not planning on overclocking
8. 1920x1080 (may get a higher res monitor in the future)
9. Within the next couple weeks
10. Need Win 8.1 or 10 - haven't decided yet

Below is what I have come up with - any input into my choices would be appreciated. This is my first build in 10+ years, so I may be a little rusty.

K-series CPU and Z-series motherboard are unnecessary if you don't plan to overclock. Non-K CPUs come with adequate coolers, though you might still consider a Hyper212 since it'll be a bit quieter under load. Otherwise, Ken's build lookd great.

Ok need some help here guys. Got everything installed and when I power it on all fans spin for about 10 seconds and then it powers off and then automatically tries again with the same result. I am getting no display on the monitor. I have rechecked all psu connections, reseated the ram (even tried booting with just 1 stick). I removed the video card and tried the onboard video, all with the same result. Since this is my first build in years I don't really have any other parts to swap out and test with. Any help/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK finally got this build up and running. I had to return the CPU as I got a dud, but once I popped the new one it worked like a charm. Now to play some games and test this baby out!

Glad you got it going. I had a 4790K that just quit after a few months. I had to send it back to Intel and they sent me a new one in just a few days.
