Hi,

I'm new as a poster on the forum, but I'm a frequent reader. I'm about to place an order on NewEgg for my new gaming machine, and it would be great to get your feedback on my build. It was 1-2 years since I built my old computer and things change so quickly so I probably have made a few mistakes (oversized on some parts and undersized on others).

This'll be easier if you give us a better idea of what exactly you're doing with this system, but some general observations.

For SLI 460s I'd rather have a stronger PSU.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.470426 One of your 460s + HX850 for $340 AR, so really only costs you $20 more. (Also there is a 650 + 460 combo if you stick with your present choice. Saves you $40)

8GB of RAM is overkill without a reason for it.

You can almost always get a 1TB Spinpoint F3 at superbiiz for $60. Better price, equal if not superior performance.

How are you intending to use all those displays? Are we talking uberwidescreen gaming or multitasking?

Also Win7 has a pretty hefty storage footprint when all's said and done. You can function just fine with a 40GB boot drive, just be 'careful' 😀

Wow, that's a lot of, um, monitors! What were you planning to do with them? I ask because if you're planning to do Nvidia surround, then you might as well only get the 3 23" monitors because you'll (obviously) want a homogeneous setup for surround.

Since you're looking at dual-channel memory (2x4GB), you're also taking away one of the "advantages" of the X58 platform over the P55 platform. I say "advantages" because the performance impact of triple-channel is really quite minimal. Anyway, I think you might as well get a x8/x8 P55 motherboard and an i5 760.

Saving some money there will enable you to get a bigger SSD. 40GB is definitely doable, but 60GB-80GB gives more breathing room.

if you live near a microcenter, you can pick up a 930 for $200 or a 760 for $170. Pretty good deal. You can use that savings to get a bigger SSD.

You need atleast 800w PSU for that build.
