New gaming build ($500 budget)

I have done a bit of research across the internet, looking for what a good $500 build would be. I am looking to play Diablo 3 on high settings, and play other games (LoL, Steam games, PSO2) on at least medium settings. I already have a 620 GB HDD, and peripherals are not included in this (monitor, mouse, KB, etc).

CPU: Intel Core i3-2120 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor ($119.99 @ Amazon)
Motherboard: ASRock H61M/U3S3 Micro ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($74.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Memory ($29.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 1GB Video Card ($139.99 @ Newegg)
Case: NZXT M59 - 001BK ATX Mid Tower Case ($54.98 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Antec 520W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply ($57.98 @ Newegg)
Total: $477.92
(Prices include shipping and discounts when available.)

Thoughts?

Also debating between that case, and the Cooler Master Elite.

Looks good to me. If you want a less fugly case in the same price range, take a look at the HAF 912.

Before people jump in here and say, "but I thought you didn't like the looks of the HAF?? WTF YOU SELLOUT!!!", I'd like to point out that I said less fugly. :awe:

Haha, I do like the look of the HAF 912, but there's no side panel. I would consider the HAF 922 Blue, but that's a bit more than I'd like to spend. Any other cases with a side panel you would recommend?

Why you limiting yourself to a dual core ? you gotta have quad core to be future proof..... i5 quad,,, if you wan't to see the 6870 to its fullest fps it can give.....gl

Also micro is no good, its really small and you dont have many lanes... for different cards

But thats your choice,,, everything is good just make shure to grab a i5 instead.. because buying a 2 core in 2012 doesn't make sense. gl Dont limit yourself, and also bottleneck the 6870,,, pay a bit more and grab a quad core CPU and your set with everything else. gl

Because "looking for what a good $500 build would be". That doesn't usually involve a $200 quad core. It could be done with a $50 mobo and a CX430 + 6850 though. Or an $80 mobo and an el cheapo case.

I do like the look of that CM case.

The i5 CPUs are a bit out of my price range for right now. This is just my first build so I'd rather not spend too much until I know I want to be able to do more with it (higher end games/non-gaming use).

That combo looks really good. Thanks for the heads up.

Ummm, what? All Z68 boards have the same number of high-speed lanes provided by the Sandy Bridge CPU. A physically smaller board has the same number of lanes to allocate between slots.

A i3-2120 will bottleneck a 6870? Now you're just making stuff up.

I find a 6770 or perhaps a 6790 would be a good choice.

Recently matched a i3 2100 with a mildly oced 6790 and in BF3 the lowest gpu usage dips to 98% and basically peggs at 99% the entire time looking at the charts of msi afterburner basically no dips at all.

Very smooth 1600x1200 high of course with no aa motion blur and hbao disabled but still a very enjoyable rig:thumbsup:

I do find lousy optimized engines do suffer much more with the i3 2100 especially my favorites like BC2 and UT3 which are still bottlenecked so i do agree sir on the quad recommendation but on a budget the i3 2100 still delivers.
