I didn't think Command and Conquer General supports high resolutions but I could be wrong. Mostly looking for a game similar to it but has been released recently or over at least 5 or so years ago. If any exist.

Act of Aggression is the closest thing to it I think. I don't think there is much of an online community, but you can do skirmishes against the A.I. Really wish we had a modern Generals. Loved that game to death.

Ah yes, the RTS genre, one of my favorites. Even more interesting that you seem to be looking for ones that are in 3D (where you can also move and rotate the camera to some extent). Those types of RTSes are a bit more difficult to find. Anyway, just going 'generally-speaking' with the genre itself I can list a couple (some won't fall in your specific category like C&C Generals would, however).

Very recent (or relatively recent) ones I heard good things about but never played myself yet:

- They Are Billions
- Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak
- Ashes of the Singularity
- 8-bit Armies
- Infested Planet

Ones that I know received 'mixed' reviews and seem to fall in the "hate it or love it" category (and never played myself):

- Grey Goo
- Planetary Annihilation / Titans

Ones I considered "okay"'ish, could have been (much) better but not exactly garbage per se (although I stopped playing them long ago):

- Age of Empires 3
- Empire Earth 2
- Ground Control
(never "hated" it, want to make it clear; but never thought of it as being as good as a lot of people made it out to be, and I never played the sequel)
- Dark Reign (similar to the above, also never played the sequel)

Ones that I know were good (well, obviously in my opinion), or "decent", albeit some being old(er):

- Act of War
- Universe at War: Earth Assault
- Star Wars: Empire at War

- Company of Heroes (first one)
- Supreme Commander / Forged Alliance (first one)
- World in Conflict
- Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2
- StarCraft 1
(HD remaster)
- StarCraft 2
- Command & Conquer 3
(particularly liked, and preferred it with the Kane's Wrath expansion)
- Red Alert 3 (absolutely not as bad as some people made it out to be at the time, up to this day; it's a solid game even though I did prefer RA2 vanilla)
- Halo Wars (the 'Definitive Edition' on Steam specifically, never played it elsewhere)

Ones that I consider among the best RTSes out there, regardless of their age or them being 3D or not:

- The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-Earth
- Command & Conquer 2 a.k.a Tiberian Sun (nostalgia helps a lot for that one, I still enjoy it enough to play it but it is much slower-paced than I'd like it to be nowadays)
- Total Annihilation
- Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds (I can only wish one day it'll receive an HD remaster like Age of Empires 2 recently got)

And the God Tier ones (definitely affected by nostalgia, to be taken with a pretty heavy grain of salt for most I guess, even though I genuinely think they are that good to this day):

- Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade
- Red Alert 1 (all versions; but my favorite has always been Retaliation, at the time played on my PS1).
- Red Alert 2 (specifically vanilla, I didn't really like the Yuri's Revenge expansion much)
- Command & Conquer 1
- Age of Empires 2
- Age of Mythologies
- Rise of Nations
- Warzone 2100
(Nostalgia Level 9000 Mode Engaged)
- WarCraft 3

Wasn't necessary to do this list on my part but I like this subject so meh, why not.

Anyway, to come back to your main question OP, I do think that at the moment Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is probably one (recent) game that might at least touch the style of game that C&C Generals was (but obviously won't be identical in playstyle I'd assume).

Act Of Aggression is very pretty but the gameplay isnt as good as Act of War.
World in Conflict is excellent.
Supreme Commander is great, the sequel not so much.
Dawn of War 1 is much better than Dawn of War 2 if you want a real RTS as opposed to a tactical squad game like Company of Heroes.

Dawn of War Dark Crusade is by far one of my all-time favorite RTS games. Soulstorm would have easily surpassed it had Relic been able to fix all the glaring issues before they were shut down, but they unfortunately left it a buggy broken mess that years of dedicated modders have pieced back together, but even with all that, it feels like a modded Dark Crusade and not a true Dawn of War game.

Rise of Nations just felt like a modern-day Empire Earth with far more repetition (if you play against the AI). It was fun for a while, but after about four hours of gameplay, I uninstalled it and haven't touched it since.

Act of Aggression would be the closest match to Generals. But that was an inferior remake of their earlier copy: Act of War. Unfortunately the RTS scene is largely dead. You've got the esports focused ones that are more about APM and quick matches than true strategy. Those don't appeal to most older players (including myself). Deep RTS's (regardless of scale) apparently are too complicated for the masses, therefore not many companies even try to make them. Large scale RTS's fail to keep the attention of today's kids and therefore they largely fail. I could spend hours listing my problem with all the more recent RTS's.

So far the only recent smaller scale RTS I've enjoyed is Spellforce 3 (73 hours). For larger scale, I'm still playing Stellaris (703 hours and counting) and greatly anticipating the upcoming 2.0 update. Mods help greatly with Stellaris.

If I had to make a list of my favorites of all time, in no particular order:

Supreme Commander 1
C&C Generals/LotR BFME 2
C&C Red Alert 2
Starcraft 1
Star Trek Armada 2
Sins of a Solar Empire
Stellaris
Spellforce 3
World in Conflict
Dawn of War 1
Warlords Battlecry 3

Of those, I would say I'd probably play Star Trek Armada 2, LotR BFME 2, and Warlords Battlecry 3 if they ran properly on modern systems. The Generals engine (which the aforementioned LotR BFME 2 also uses) doesn't like modern systems. Camera mods help but it's still not a great experience. I'm not a huge multiplayer person (with strangers, happy to play with friends) but World in Conflict really only shines in multiplayer but good god it was fun multiplayer.

Wait until They are Billions comes out of Early Access and has the campaign mode added. I've been playing for a few weeks now and enjoy it. Definitely not an APM type RTS.

I got C&CG working fine at 2440x1440. Might have been letterboxed on side? Can't remember. Check wide screen gaming forum for ini or patch.
