Your so sure of yourself. Wild speculation currently. Given the price point, and some of the more legitimate looking leaks.. it looks like BD will be very competitive with SB, while being a bit cheaper. There have been a lot of respectable people saying "this is what you will want for gaming" that have seen what none of us have yet. And these aren't trolls or people that would be lying.

To me it looks like a GeForce/Radeon battle.. more or less equal, give or take a few wins on either side. It will all come down to the features you want.

Be specific. What respectable source has said that Bulldozer is "what you will want for gaming"? Maybe someone did say it but who was it, and how many people do you define as
"a lot".

So far most of the comments I have heard have stated that Bulldozer at best will be competitive in heavily multithreaded workloads and trail SB in gaming.

I think people need to start asking themselves.

Is the state of the current gaming industry AND especially progress (in graphics department) justify buying a new Gaming rig.

If you ask me....answer is NO.

I bet even if AMD sold a 2 module / 4 core unlocked Bulldozer FX chip with a watercooler, all for $169, you'd still have people on here saying a 2500k (and its requisite $50 cooler) would be better. Even before the NDA is lifted. There's no way those retail prices could cover a water cooler, unless the uArch really is slower than Stars.

:hmm: A 4 core Bulldozer for $170 would be a horrible deal since it looks like it will take an 8 core BD to compete with a 4 core SB. Besides, any reason why anyone would buy that over a $159 X6 1090T and get a $25 CM212+ or a Corsair A50/A70?

Also, the Thermalright Macho HR-02 delivers similar performance at far lower noise levels than the Corsair H70/80 kits and costs $40. Enclosed watercooling systems have been put on a pedestal in the last 2-3 years. I still don't particularly see any value in them. Just because you are getting a "$70-90" enclosed watercooler doesn't make the cooler worth its $70-90 asking price when you can get better coolers for $40.

If they can bundle the cooler with the FX-8150 for $20-30 extra above MSRP of the CPU alone that would be awesome!

I am all for a successful launch for AMD but with all this "frosting" that AMD is adding like the Tin box and now this cooler, it just looks like AMD is putting more attention to the asthetics rather than the CPU itself.

AMD's already been trying to be like Apple with all the secrecy so they might as well go all the way and try to make it "cool"

I believe that its a special edition bundle. and will run north of $320.
edit: at least thats what i read on another forum. I dont remember which one though.

You do realize that the people who do branding/art/design/marketing are not the same people that engineer the CPU? They need things to do too. 😛

Where can we buy that Macho?

When the bulldozers to be on sale, amd bulldozer occasion also launched a version of the water-cooled radiator.

Packaging style is not only the use of bulldozers, water-cooled head cover is also a sign of a bulldozer. But it looks like the antec 920 water cooled heat sink, the initial judge is by the same foundry foundry.

Looks more like an AMD branded water cooler that is sold seperatly from the CPU.

Has nothing to do with anything.

No proof whatsoever that the processor comes with it.

On a side note that cooler looks awesome.

i nominate u for a self ownage of the year...lol...

LOL.....

Intel Corp. recently confirmed intentions to bundle liquid cooling systems into boxes with its next-generation Core i7-3000-series central processing units (CPUs) code-named Sandy Bridge-E. The firm also decided that it would sell the coolers separately so that to address other platforms. The actual devices will be made by Asetek and sold under Intel brand.

I'm not a big fan of watercooling, and if AMD really is sending these things out with the CPUs, it's not a good sign IMO. Perhaps Bulldozer runs pig rich and hot when overclocked to 5ghz and needs water to control the heat output.

I'll be damned if I ever put water inside my computer.

It's just another SKU that isn't out yet. The standard retail is tin can w/air cooler.

All I've got to say is that unless the thing can overclock to 5ghz on air and perform twice as fast as my Phenom II across the board, I'm not interested.

I really hope water cooling doesn't become the norm any time soon.

why not? there's nothing wrong with it, it actually works better ya goof.
Adding a nitro boost to a motor makes it work better as well. It doesn't make it a good idea for most people, though.

I just think putting water near something electrical does not make sense. People do have leaks, plus you have to do maintenance on the setup.

IMO watercooling is fail. I have the right to my opinion. :colbert:
