New found stability issues--random reboots

For sure. Someone posted similar experiences on this forum. They were seeing increasing vdroop on a 680i. Could be a problem on the 650i too? OP, how long have you been running this rig?

I've been using the board since February and the processor for about 3-4 months now

ram is an ever changing thing and the graphics card since mid july

new found info (confusion actually)

I got it running using one stick in the "middle" yellow slot - wouldn't post in any other slot period until I boosted up the voltage to 2.189v (really didn't try lower)

now I'm back to running 2 gigs (not OC'd at all - ram timings below specs actually) in my black slots and it seems just fine after looping 3Dmark for about 5 hours along side orthos

that still confuses me to no end -- espec that the stick would work in the 1 slot and not any of the other 3 until I increased voltage

I went and got another board (just another P5N-e SLI) and am thinking about doing a swap out for it

i'm really confused about this memory (seeming) stability issue -- haven't messed around with any thing OC'd yet after getting it working with the memory in the black slots

Isn't 2.189V the closest to the 2.2V specified by Crucial?

There is no real reason to run memory below the rated voltage. It is "nice", and probably helps longevity, but anything close or slightly above 2.2V shouldn't hurt the Ballistix.

Try running my OC mentioned above; 1300/800, 4-4-4-12-2T, 1.3V/2.189V, NB auto.

You will be able to get back to your previous OC once you get the system stable again.

nope didn't check default as stated above

Try it. If it passes, well, you're OCing too far and nothing is defective. If not, then you can start going down the defective-hardware route.

Btw, those Ballistix using D9Gxx chips are known to die or degrade rather quickly from even moderately high volts like 2.3v if you don't use active cooling over them. Check over at Xtremesystems, there's been a lotta people with dead D9's. Only exception for long term high volts are fatbody D9's.

I am aware of possibility of my D9's dying -- and I always keep 2 fans on them at all times. A 40mm and a 60mm. I also try to keep a temp sensor under the heat spreader in the place that appears to get the least amount of air flow

I don't like to see my temps above 40c for them and usually they are about 30c even with 2.3v

I picked up a new mobo and so far so good... (same model)

no issue of the memory only working in one slot until I pump up the juice -- both sticks posted up at DDR2-667 CAS3 with 1.8v but I only did that as I forgot to step it up to 2.2v when I adjusted the timings - but that is a lot more than my last board was allowing me to do as it wasn't posting period at 667 at CAS5

ran 6 hours of orthos with stock settings - every thing responds well and I'll look at revalidating my OC of the course of the coming week

I'm open to the idea that it might have been something else but the fact that my mobo wouldn't let me post at stock settings unless the memory was in the one particular slot made me think the board might have been the issue. Especially now that the new board lets me post up just fine with 2 sticks.
