New forum design isn't very good

You know the motto...."if it ain't broke, don't fix it". The old forums needed only minor tweaking to the way the categories were setup. Now it's a complete mess, way too many sub-categories. The only thing that was ever seriously wrong with this forum was the damn search engine, and nothing has been done to fix that. Instead they worry about making the colors pretty and creating massive amounts of new categories.

A separate category for love/relationships...? Gimme a break.

Yea, this is ridiculous. Too much forum clicking to find posts. Like I said in another thread, in OT, I've always just clicked on what was interested. Now it's so broken up I seriously doubt I'll browse all those categories. This is going to make for many slow moving categories.

Unless you actively seek out YAGTs and YACTs it's only one extra click to browse ATOT. Even if you do it's just three sub-categories. Otherwise it'd just be the same old YAGTs bumping everything else to the second page.

Someone needs a severe beating for this topic... namely the OP.

Look at the bright side, you'll be able to do at least fifty "Wrong forum" posts a day.

Like I said, I click on what is interesting while browsing the forum, often I rarely click past the first page. With this many categories I'm not going to be cruising around all the different categories. It's probably going to be that way for many people. The result will be a lot of these forums will be extremely slow moving.

Couldn't agree more. I normally don't read YAGT's, but every now and then one catches my eye and I find it an interesting and entertaining read. Now it's highly unlikely I'll ever visit that separate sub-category. What is going to happen is lots of these categories are going to get next to no traffic at all. Maybe AT can monitor which categories are receiving traffic, and then trim/merge them down accordingly.

I appreciate the fact that they are trying to improve the forums, but please take suggestions from the USERS before you go overhaul the entire system.

It was a bit intimidating the way it was and not very "broad" spectrum.

Now watch the rest of the world find the gem AT is.

Agreed.

I started reading through some of the sub-catagories' names under "Hardware and Te..." (yes, that's the catagory name as I see it on my screen), and I'll be honest in saying that I got bored after reading four...

There are far too many sub-catagories. People will spend 5 minutes just deciding where to put their topic.

Exactly! And it will take everyone atleast 7 minutes to figure out where to read about the subject they are wanting to read about!
