The New Taurus is an excellent car. The price is the same as the 2009 model price. In addition, it has a ton of new features:

Traffic Alert, Collision Warning, MyKey parental programmability, EasyFuel capless refueling, SecuriCode Keyless Entry, Ford SYNC and Voice-Activated Navigation with SIRIUS Travel Link. Other features new to Taurus include Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Information System, Rain-Sensing Wipers and Intelligent Access with Push Button Start

The Taurus starts at $25995.
The BMW 3 starts at over $30k.
The lexus IS10 starts at over $31.8k (and is ass ugly in my opinion)
The Acura TSX starts at $29,310

The Taurus is tops in safety ratings, and Ford just passed Honda and Toyota in quality. Plus it gets good ratings by Edmunds, Consumer Reports, etc.

I'm not trying to sound like a commercial, but it sure appears it's a pretty good car, with good quality, at a lower price that the so-called "Premium" nameplates like BMW, Lexus, and Acura. The fact that it can stand up in reviews against those cars just goes to show you how far Ford has come. They still don't make a decent sport-4-door car though, and that's disappointing.

To get those features in a Taurus you will be pushing $38K.
Add a sunroof and you are right at $40K. For a Taurus.

If you add remote start to the Taurus, you lose the NAV, Adaptive cruise, and collision warning with brake support...

I really do miss my 98 Coutour SVT. It may have only had 200 hp but it was more fun to drive and handled the road almost as well as my 85 Vette.

Too bad they kept the taurus name, that name shoulid be put in a trash heap forever.

You obviously have no idea about it then. They brought back the name cus it's a trusted name. The Taurus was at one time the best selling car in America.
Then they turned it into one of the shittiest cars in the U.S., which is how most people remember it. And even when it was one of the best selling cars in America, it wasn't a 1980's-equivalent of $40K+.

That's BMW territory. Would you buy a Taurus over a BMW 3 Series?

Most of the people I hear trashing the original Taurus never owned one. I owned two, a '91 GL and a '96 GL Wagon. Both were excellent cars. The '91 went 250k when I sold it to a high school kid for $100 and he drove it three more years, original engine and tranny. I drove the '96 to 150k and gave it to a needy, single mother who didn't have a car. She is still driving it, original engine and trans.

Cars are as reliable as the people taking care of them 90% of the time. Sometimes there are engineering defects, like the head gasket issue on the 3.8L Taurus models which was going to break no matter what you did but that's certainly the exception.

I never owned the last "original" generation Taurus but drove several with the 3.0L Duratec which is one of the most reliable sixers on the market and has been since it's introduction. It's such a good engine Jaguar stacked two of them side by side and made their current V12. These engines are still in production in the Fusion/Milan and the Escape/Mariner/Tribute.

Most people bashing FoMoCo products are speaking out of school and are just repeating nonsense they have heard other spout wihtout having actually owned the products. It's funny that I've pretty much been buying Ford products my entire life and haven't experienced the quality and reliability issues that the unwashed masses claim.
I am glad the cars worked well for you, but by your own admission "people trash" them, and to me and i think to many others the taurus is synomymous with a bad car. when i think of a taurus i think of a car i'd rather eat a bullet than buy because i just think of those ugly as sin mid 90's things. ugh. The new taurus might be great, but that name ain't doing it for me.

Yes, by my own admission stupid people bash these cars out of ignorance. Thanks for proving my point.

Really? Can you cite that? I haven't seen it in any literature and I'm interested in the whys.

Yep your right. In that price range everbody should pony up for a BMW.

Nevermind the fact that you can fit a 3 series into the trunk of a Taurus. But nobody takes size into consideration when buying a car. And who cares if a comparably equipped 3 series costs more?

...

And? The same is true of those other vehicles. Your comment "For a Taurus" tells me that you're not exactly looking at the vehicle objectively. If you don't like Tauruses, fine. Tell us what you don't like in comparing this car to it's competitors: Toyota Avalon, the Chrysler 300, Chevy Impala, 2010 Chevrolet Malibu, the 2010 Hyundai Sonata, the 2010 Pontiac G6 and the 2010 Toyota Camry.

If you're going to take the standpoint that 'It's a Taurus', then there really isn't much to discuss with you.

I own a 1995 Taurus GL 3.8L in Oxford White with ~52,000 lovingly cared for miles on it.

I've been waiting for a new Taurus for a long time. I know all there is to know about the new 2010 Taurus. I tried in vain to purchase the "newer" Taurus in 2008. Was unable to find one at any dealer anywhere near me.

Bought my 2008 Jeep GC Limited, which I love, instead.

Had I known what was going to happen with Chrysler, I never would have bought the Jeep. I'd have sat tight and waited and kept all that money.

I had to put a starter in my Taurus recently:

Here she is turning over to 50K on I-40 not long ago.

I love my Taurus. I want another one. Unfortunately, they don't make it anymore.

I saw one on the freeway today. Looked ok, nothing to write home about. Based on the looks alone, I wouldn't consider buying one.
