Everybody knows about Nvidias problems with AA and AF. Well i just installed the new 62.11 betas and i found a bit of a shocking discovory. Under the advanced options we now see a setting that says anisotropic filtering optimizations.....off. Anyone done benches with this yet. I will be posting my findings shortly. However, im not good at spotting IQ degradation. Is there any way i can take a screen capture and put it somewhere where everyone can see it?

Well i dont think i did this right and the only thing that i have that i can use AF on is Aquamark. I ran everything at default settings with AF at 4x which is max. (this is the demo).

Defaults 4xAF Optimizations Off
GFX 4845
CPU 6936
__________
35902

Defaults 4xAF Optimizations On

GFX 4833
CPU 7012
__________
35952

I did not restart machine in between setting changes. I close out of all oopen programs. Tests run on a Geforce FX5900XT at default clocks.

-Kevin

Edit: Anyone else who can run a decent benchmark suite please do!

Optimisations slowed your PC? That's wierd!
You could capture images using Fraps, by clicking F10

I need someone to bench with a more reliable suite. Im not too familiar with aquamark. Someone who has a game and can do that would be really nice.

The aquamark demo doesnt allow you to choose AF in the control panel as far as I know. When you run the demo it says AF: 2x no matter what you choose in the nvidia control panel. 50 points is a possible change between runs - well within a standard deviation.

Gamingphreek There is a review that has shown this difference already but I cannot for the life of me think of where it was. If I remember I will PM you.

Well does anyone have a couple games that they could bench with and without optimizations. If they would it would be a big help!!

I guess you didn't use the 61.71 drivers which was the first driver release to have the anisotropic optimisation option (btw since when did optimisations have a z in it?) ;)

Can't do any benchmarking right now because I'm in work! :(

Probably allows you to disable the angle dependent AF that is similar to ATIs. So if somebody is an IQ freak they can get the best in quality.

This is a good move by Nvidia IMO.

Since forever (well, at least for quite some time anyway).

If you are going to correct someone, at least double check first (although I guess it could be a regional difference).

BTW, what language is this, and what does it mean?
"Y Ddraig Goch ddyry gychwyn!"

Is that Welsh?

Oh, sorry for the off topic post BTW.

"optimizations was not found in the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary"
"optimisations was not found in the Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary"

Hmmm so much for improving my English? :(

Cambridge Dictionaries Online

Y Ddraig Goch ddyry gychwyn! is welsh and it doesn't translate well into english because I would be banned if the mods knew what it means! ;)
