This is interesting, i always suspected it was an error because it looked so bad. What i thougt was a lens error can be corrected very much with software. Thats a normal practice, but normally corrected before even pre- release. Good news but the camera is still a let down on shapness and especially dynamics.

Edit: Taken from discussion in the S4 thread:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=34785660&postcount=716

"Well there is something wrong, and HTC will have to have this years disapointment for camera. I had hoped for at change in the stupid Mpix race, but this will bring us backwards.

1. For a starter the lens of the HTC One, is very bad or faulty. Look at the picture here:

Look at the sharpness on the top right corner. The corner is very unsharp and its incredible big. I have seen it on other review sites. This is not going to work. Period. It makes the pictures on a screen lager than ipad mini look outright bad. "

Looking again at the pictures from hardwarezone i can see not only the corners that have improved but the entire picture. If i trust my eyes that leaves me to think there is still an issue this could have been an hardware issue of the lens instead of firmware. The pictures in general have been so unsharp that is the only good explanation.

Saying it was because of 4 mix is nonsense, because the problem is aparent at low res also. 1 mpix can give far sharper pictures. HTC have an issue and they need to explain it.

Hate to say it but this is typical htc, and they need to take it more slowly.

S4 is sharper than htc one even downscaled to 4 mpix:

Something is broken

And now the entire world thinks its because of low mpix on One :(

The problem with this test is that given a large amount of light (like being outdoors), the higher MP count of the Galaxy S III and S4 are always going to win simply because you don't have to deal with high ISO or long exposures. I'd like to see some low light testing though, in theory, that's where the HTC One should shine.

That does not explain why it is so unsharp. Imagine samsung could have used a sensor a quarter the size and still be sharper and for the most part better.

One gives better pictures indoors, but when using indoor low ligt mode the samsung probably gives bettrr pictures anyway.

It seems HTC One camera performed so so under low light condition.

I think it's rather subjective, every site I've seen has had different results with each camera. I find the default settings to be such shit, I mean default settings on my 808 is 5MP, image stablization off, flash all the time for some reason and jpg quality to medium.......

I mean I'll switch my settings to the surroundings to make the best possible picture. They really need to do this in reviews, otherwise what is the point of cameras having features and settings, might as well get the featureless iPhone 5 camera, no wonder why that comes out on top.
