New Fire Tablets @Amazon (09/2015 Necro)

fire - $49.99 entry level

fire hd8 - $149.99

fire hd10 - $229

fire kids edition - $99

The good: they all have microSD card slots, cheap expandable storage.

The bad: they max out at 1GB RAM, which is a downgrade from last year's kindle fire HDX and fire hdx 8.9

This is probably a dealbreaker for me, as I remember my old first gen kindle fire being extremely laggy after switching apps a few times, unless they have vastly improved the underlying OS to perform better with less RAM (a possibility).

I think they cut a few corners to get the prices as low as they wanted.

Kids edition is interesting though, because I don't think my son would notice the lack of RAM.

Also new Fire TV boxes, with 4k support and upgraded hardware. Amazingly, Amazon figured out how to give the Fire HD 2GB RAM while even the new 10" tablet is still sitting at 1GB.

We could probably merge this with the other one, mods. It's five minutes later, but this does have the pricing information that is helpful.

You could get two Fire tablets for the price of the Kids Edition tablet, though. They look like they have basically the same hardware, and the only real difference is the case, a two year unlimited warranty, and dumbed down UI that I would probably disable anyway.

Hi Group,
I have a question about the "Fire HD8" so I thought I would just jump in here since there is a thread about one.

Anyway, has anyone tried the "Fire HD8" as my Samsung Tab 3 is starting to die on me and I really like using a 8" tablet with at least the res that this offers (1280x800)

and basically it would be for reading and watching movies from Netflix and Amazon. I read somewhere that this has a very long recharge time so that to me kinda stinks and that is why I came in here to see what your guys take is on it.

Thanks, Jake

Asking what you should buy is deserving of it's own thread and really isn't worth a necroing a old thread.

I bought the entry Fire for $35 on Black Friday. I'm really digging it for the price. I gave it to my 8YO daughter who plays marginally taxing things like Goat Simulator, Roblox, and Minecraft. These all run buttery smooth. The low res screen is a turnoff, but she doesn't care. It's still a great value! I'd buy another!
