New Fiesta ST for me!

I'm coming from a 2013 Focus SE 5 speed - great car but I wanted something with a bit more get up and go. I was actually at a local dealer a while back to look at a used Focus ST they had on the lot. The salesman said they had just gotten a Fiesta ST off the truck and asked if I wanted to take it for a spin.

I hadn't really considered the Fiesta because I thought it would be too small but after a short drive I knew that too small or not there would eventually be one in my driveway. I drive it alone 99% of the time so the size really hasn't been an issue at all. My wife drives a Sienna so we have that for longer hauls/large loads.

I love how nimble the car is - the Focus felt very "heavy" in comparison after a back to back test drive. I went ahead and drove a lot of other cars to make sure this was the one and kept coming back to it. Haven't regretted it a day since - it truly is a fantastic car.

It's molten orange with molten orange Recaros, moonroof, nav, and rado gray wheels.

I snapped this on the day of the first test drive. After my test drive they put it in the show room and it sat there for a month and a half until I came back and bought it. It had 18 miles it when I drove it home.

Love the orange, still haven't seen it in person. I thought about one but didn't want the orange interior though. I test drove a blue one and loved it, actually put a deposit down and they sold it to someone else.

I priced out another one but wasn't sure if I wanted the sunroof/nav but knew I wanted the Recaros. Couldn't decide on orange, green, blue, silver... they all look great. Too bad my DD 2001 Insight is so sensible @ 50 MPG and I have an S2000 in the garage. For the Hot Hatch to make sense I'd have to get rid of both my other cars.

Owning a fiesta myself, awesome choice!

tweakmonkey, get a eco Fiesta, 1.0L 3 cylinder turbo gets 50MPG.

I'd trade a little mileage for the extra performance of the 1.6 and the Recaros etc :) But the hard trade is getting rid of a fun / cheap DD -and- my sports car.

Edit - also I don't think you can buy that 3 cyl turbo in the US??

My wife wasn't sure about the orange interior at first either, but it looks much better in person than it does in pictures. She had only seen pictures until I brought it home - she also agrees it looks much better in person.

White was a close second in color for me. But I agree - I think it looks good in pretty much every color.

The sunroof is pretty far back along the roof line - almost behind my head. It's kind of awkwardly positioned. But I do like the extra light it brings into the car.

I could definitely do without the nav system but it was on the car so I ended up with it. It is a bit more convenient having it built into the car and not having to fumble with the phone. I haven't run across any instances yet where it hasn't been able to route me to where I'm going but I've just used it around town so far.

Love it. If cars could embody swagger...the Fiesta ST has it. There's just something about it's size and the way that Ford styled it that it just wears it's attitude on it's sleeve.

Enjoy. I'm sure it's an absolute hoot to fling around town.

What kind of mileage are you averaging? Takes premium fuel I presume?

It will actually run on regular but there is a power penalty. I haven't put any regular in it so far though, so I can't say if there is a noticeable power drop or not. It's a good option though if gas prices go through the roof at some point.

I have filled up 4 times. Average MPG:

28.5, 33.4, 29, 29.6

Congrats on the new wheels. Great colour choice. Love those hot hatches. I am going to assume its stick, probably a 6 spd? Looks like a total blast to drive. Have fun breaking it in :)

Sweet ride!

Personally, I can't get over paying $20K for such a small vehicle. I guess I need to come to terms that cars cost more these days.

Although, I could get two of these for what I paid for my F-150. :hmm:

You might be thinking about the Focus ST.

The Fiesta ST MSRP is like 22k, you'd probably be able to settle for 20-21k with the dealership.

Good choice. Tint needs to be first thing done. I've left mine bone stock besides tint and plan on just enjoying it. It seems to have all the power I want and I still just sit back and admire how bad ass the car looks. I use premium as well although I doubt I could ever tell the difference with the butt dyno. Figure I might as well spoil her.

It pisses me off that GM doesn't have a car like this, or the Focus ST. They used to make the Cobalt SS, which was a rocket at the time, and I wish they would do the same with the Cruze.

Good point - the Cobalt SS, HHR SS, and Ion Redline were hot little cars platform-wise but let down by the looks (IMO) and interiors. Now that Chevy has fixed those issues through most of their lineup, it would be really nice if they'd come up with some sporty versions of their less expensive cars. People still revere the Neon SRT-4 even though it was a POS in a lot of ways (could be made fast as hell though).

That's a cool car. Did you buy that new? What about do they go for?

Yep, bought it new. Sticker was ~$26K. I paid $22.5K OTD.

Congrats on the new wheels. Great colour choice. Love those hot hatches. I am going to assume its stick, probably a 6 spd? Looks like a total blast to drive. Have fun breaking it in :)

Thanks! I love the color as well. It is a 6 speed. Amazing transmission - fairly short throws and an extremely light clutch. Very fun and easy to commute in.

The Fiesta STs definitely have a decent range price wise. They start at $21.7K for the base model and go up from there. Mine is pretty much fully optioned and as mentioned earlier sticker was ~$26K. The Recaros alone are a $2K option - 10% of the price of the car but worth it IMO.

Some were able to get 2014 base STs for just under $20K out the door which I think is a pretty great deal for what the car offers.

It was a little hard to justify price-wise compared to the Focus ST when you can get a more powerful well-optioned Focus for roughly the same price right now. But I wanted the smaller, more nimble car. It really came down to personal preference - for me the Fiesta was just more fun to drive.

Yeah, definitely getting it tinted though at this point in the year I might wait until spring before I get it done. Mine is stock as well and probably will be for a little while since to me it's pretty much perfect the way it is. I will eventually add some upgrades but I'm not in a huge hurry to do so.

Looks like a 13-15k car to me. I like the look, I dig the style, its just so small and not worth the 22k dealers are asking imho.

Obviously they sell though. It's cute.

Very envious.

I really like my 2012 Ford Focus but, but I would love up upgrade (downgrade?) to a Fiesta ST. now that I live in a metro area I'd love a small, nimble, punchy car to drive around town in.

That being said... I've almost got my Focus paid off, so not really looking to take on a new car payment. :-/

Sure a base Fiesta does, but this thing hauls ass, awesome suspension, brakes and turbo engine compared to anything under $20k. It whips on $25k cars as well and gets good gas mileage. And those seats!

If the size of a car determines its value, I'd hate to see how Lotus Elises rank with you ;)

Yeah you definitely have unrealistic expectations. Have you seen what a $13K car is now? A gutless, cheap Hyundai or low end Nissan Versa/Note.

My Focus ST was $26.7K...the last car I bought brand new was my '91 Eclipse GS Turbo at like $15.7K, and I think it's remarkable how much more car the Focus is versus the Eclipse for "only" $11K more. And people are getting the base Focus ST (which is still very well appointed) for ~$20K.

$15.7K in 1990 has the same buying power as $29K today, FWIW.

That thing is really nice. I drove one last weekend just for the hell of it, even though I'm probably going to end up with a Focus. I agree about the color, looks pretty damn good in person, and while the car is small, it's roomier than it looks.
