There is a dangerous weight loss fad in Beverly Hills, and it's not pretty. In order to lose as many as 30 pounds in a single month, patients are having postage-stamp size pieces of rough plastic sewn onto their tongues, making it impossible for them to eat.

The plastic is attached with six stitches and left in place for up to one month. It makes eating solid food so painful that the patient is forced to drink only liquids, which which causes rapid weight loss. The procedure was developed by Dr. Nikolas Chugay, whose California clinic is the only place in the United States that offers the surgery, which has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Heaven forbid people actually exercise.

This can also be done with needle tenderizers on the tongue.

I'm all for safe workarounds for people who are unable to find the motivation to stop eating and start exercising. This just doesn't seem safe. For those who look down at those who resorted to gastric surgeries, enjoy your pedestal I guess?

must be fake, wouldn't some agency stomp down on this?

@Moment gastric surgery reduces the quantity of food you eat but it doesn't impair your ability to have a balanced diet.
These people may end up with deficits instead, I don't think you can drink everything you need that easily.
He pairs the procedure with a special 800-calorie liquid diet to maximize weight loss.
if you do this, there's no need for the procedure.

Regardless, there are still many who look down at those with gastric surgeries for weight loss.

i could still picture people drinking like 3k calories worth of drinks/shakes and still not lose weight.

It could certainly still be defeated, just like gastric bypass can. I think the idea is that it's easy to say "Oh, I'd love to have a piece of cake, unfortunately I have a piece of plastic sewn into my fucking mouth so I really can't."

People are so damn pushy with food.

So true.. People at work always bring in boxes of donuts and expect everyone to eat them!

I'm not overweight so they tell me I can "afford one". One of these days I'm going to tell them they CAN'T! "afford one"

Of course you bring in a basket of fruit and you leave with the same basket of fruit...
