The latest version of Facebook for Android is now available! The app has a number of notable new features, including: video playback, the ability to view and RSVP for events, respond to friend requests without leaving the app, and an updated home page. The new home page has a draggable notifications drawer, a photo reel for easy viewing of your friends' photos and videos, and the ability to post a status update or search for friends with just one click.

If you already have Facebook for Android installed on your device, you'll be prompted that the updated app is now available. Any Android device owner can download and install the latest version from the Android Market as well. Please let us know what you think about this latest version.

To learn more about the app, check out the Facebook for Android page: http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=74769995908

Looks like they addressed most of the complaints

Much better!!! THank you, but notifications still open in browser.. lol. come on. Can we at least get something that beats what the iPhone had in July 2008 when the App store debuted? Thanks.

So it still opens in m.facebook.com then?

Meh, doesn't much matter, I have no intention of recreating my FB account.

They're closer to encapsulating the entire FB experience in an app, but as mentioned notifications still spawn a browser session.

I feel like you need a combination of touch.facebook.com and the Android app to get the full experience.

Heck I need the full site sometimes on my browser to delete comments. What a shame.

Can you post links from the app yet? I have a hell of a time posting links from my phone (be it via app, touch, m, or full site).

Some are reporting that the new app is draining battery life, anyone confirm?

the only thing I use it for is uploading pics/links.

Android users tend to complain about battery life a lot. It might be a little worse than the old or it could be that they are using more than the old one.
