Why not sell off a box or two and set up a 980X rig? You can blow through a -bigadv in a day and a half at 4ghz. You can net around 50K with a 2685 unit, with bonus points and would save you a ton on electricity.

well, I will soon have 2 x quad core Xeon's Nehalem, 8 real cores, 16 virtual. Think that will work good enough ?

That will be sweet once its up and running.

Are you going to set up an SR-2 board?

No bios option for overclocking. You might be able to do via software, but I have not found any information about anyone doing so.

Now I have 7 video cards for sale !!! 4 8800GT superclocked All at factory settings.

Are those single-slot or dual-slot? If they are single-slot, I might be interested in all four to upgrade my quad-GPU rig. Then again, not sure how much more power those draw compared to four 9600GSOs. Might need to do an expensive PSU upgrade, and then I have to worry about temps, if they are disappating more power.

Edit: If you still have them available, when I get back from vacation.

All I did was turn on HT from before. Not sure on the ram, but for sure UNDER spec speed., probably 1333 or less, and stock timings and voltage.

OK, So I touched nothing, but the next unit finished !!! 3 days and 17 hours !!!

Its already at 8%, and yes, its a 2684
Rats! I was hoping you would get one of the better ones: 2682 or 2686. I wanted you to be able to see the difference with -bigadv.

The difference for me is about 50 mpf (18k ppd) and 36 mpf (28k ppd)

Odds are you should get one next time ;)

Has anyone looked at the latest 8 core and 12 core opterons from AMD?

There's only 3 motherboards available from newegg and only one dual cpu MB (asus).

MB: link

cpu x 2 options (16 core or 24 cores total): link

The cheapest option is 2 X 2 GHz cpu (16 real cores total) :)

I seriously though about 2 of those $280 8 core Opterons, but that $1000 plus memory !

I still haven't recovered from my Europe trip yet ($19k) When its paid off, I may. But I have 2 5520 Xeons coming in the next 2 months. They come first.

Yeah, it would be good to see some F@H performance stats before committing to that amount of money. I'm looking for a build that would be good for both boinc and F@H. Thinking about that annual F@H holiday race!

Come December, I'm going to be seriously outgunned, I think, with everyone upgrading to i7s and GTX460/70/80s. I'm still happy with my rig, just not with it's power consumption. (Though I suspect my A/C might be more to blame, but I won't know until the winter months.)

Wait you mean you can't run 2 460 with F@H mark? I'm thinking of getting another for SLI to run F@H as well. Let me know if you can. I will have 2xevga super clocked GTX 460 then for folding/gaming. Remember you can't run 460 GTX in triple/quad configs by design.

btw markfw900, you are using older version of MSI afterburner, the newest one 1.6.1 adds support for 460. I had the same problem at first and was like wth is going on. lol

I forgot to put "-gpu 0" and "-gpu 1" on the units.

Now I have them in this box:
2 x E5520 2.27 ghz
2 x Ultra 120 TRUE's
4 x 2 gig Corsair 1333 DDR3
2 x 470 GTX
PSU Corsair AX1200
Supermicro X8DAL-1

But its only doing 9300 ppd with 8 real cores ! My 1090t is getting 12k right now, and my 920 is doing 5700. WTF ? The nehalems are dying on the current units ??

Now if it could only get a bidadv. When I downloaded the smp2 client, it no longer uses that "install.bat" or even installs anything. Whats with that ? or did I install the wrong client ?

Ok that makes sense.

If they ever make folding cpu and GPU work right on all systems i will use CPU to. But for noew GPU all the way. 2nd 460gtx coming online next month.

Hey Mark,

Are you folding with any gpu's on the 1090T, or is it just cpu folding?

one 260 GTX, getting 12,200 on the CPU and 6,374 on the 260.

I don't suppose that with a hexcore that you lose any ppd by running both clients? I ended up shutting down my dual core and just folding with my gpu on my machine because it seemed to be messing with my overall ppd by running them both.

What video card ? I have 10 different nvidia types of cards, running different driver versions. NONE use any cpu. Oldest drivers are 182 something.

Does anybody have a suggested benchmark tool I should use to validate this thing ? My ppd dropped to 2600 today ! This think should be kicking everything I have around on ppd for the 16 virtual cores, 8 real.
