After installing the new EVGA 8800GTS 320MB superclocked video card I have seen the following items:
1) CDROM drive intermittently being detected by motherboard even though I can open/close the drive
2) Quick blue screen during boot up of XP followed by immediate reboot
3) Stuttering/hang in the blue XP loading bar during boot

Once the system actually reaches the login screen for windows XP everything seems fine and dandy.
*update* Also experiencing weirdness after logging into XP....I randomly lose sound from the X-fi.

Currently am using a 1+ year old Seasonic S-12 500W power supply with 2 12V rails....one 16A the other 17A.

Is this a sign that the supply may be going bad? How can I tell which power connectors go to which rail? Was hoping to put the hard drive and CDROM drive on a separate rail. Is the seasonic 500W not powerful enough?

System specs:
C2D 6400 processor
2 gig memory
320g hard drive
evga 8800gts 320MB card
DVD-RW drive
X-fi card

Am using latest drivers from NVIDIA.

I am perplexed....help!

it might be your PS, did you clean your drivers beforehand with a driver cleaner?

Did not use a driver cleaner before uninstalling the old drivers and installing the new ones. However drivers would not explain the DVD drive sometimes being detected while not being detected on other boots by the motherboard BIOS.

Also noticed that the X-Fi also loses the ability to produce sound intermittently.

Currently updating this thread on said system in safe mode with networking.
