Game Description:

Centuries of war have left their mark on the continent of Kunark. Explore this massive region as your existing character or as the new playable race ? The Sarnak ? and discover a world full of intrigue and danger. Engage in all-new adventures as you embark on a crusade to reveal the truth of the wars between the reborn Iksar Empire, Sarnaks, and Dragons and uncover artifacts long since thought lost to history. The lush, nostalgic continent of Kunark begins your courageous path from the new starting city in Timorous Deep.

Rise of Kunark is the fourth expansion pack for the critically acclaimed EverQuest II franchise. With the introduction of the new playable race, the Sarnak, and new starting area, Timorous Deep, Rise of Kunark provides a full range of content for new player?s levels 1-20 as well as advanced, high level players whom can now achieve up to level 80 in high level zones, both increasing their Adventure and Tradeskill classes.

This poor game made the mistake of going head to head with WoW. And of course it wasnt terribly good at launch either.

Was not bad when I played it heavily (before the major combat update, LU 10ish), but it was turning into a WoW clone with each LU it seemed, especially when I got the free trial from Sony to try it again with the new RP-PvP servers.

I enjoyed EQ2 for the last few months, then I switch to Vanguard for a few months... once I realized that SOE was indeed taking Vanguard over I removed myself from that as well (many of Brad's comments have alluded toward that impression - like they are now talking about a "new vision" for the game already when the old vision wasn't even in the same book let alone page).

Needless to say, this morning in fact I had cancelled my Station subscription (to top it off they jacked the price up to $30/mo - waste of money, I can get a new game every month for that price). Unless Sony's MMO pricing comes down to reasonable levels for the crap they have (no more than $7.95/mo or $19.95/mo for all access), I won't be coming back.

EQ2 was very good at launch, one of the smoothest launches of any MMO. WoW was a text book example of a clusterfvck launch.

Ahh... the trains of Karnor's, the farming of old seb. I remember pulling as a cleric to a group of wizards/mages/pally tank for AE domination. Farming for my Donal's set. Killing trak for the first time... getting my epic weapon. Memories *tear*... Man I don't think anything will ever live up to what the original eq and RoK+SoV did for me. That was when the game was more about the quality of the content, the challenge... rather than the money. Don't get me wrong Verant (Pre- sony massacring the game) was out for money, but I think they actually cared about the player's gameplay experience more. I mean seriously... killing Naggy/vox back in the day was so fun. Going to ToV... fun times. I actually enjoyed dungeon crawls then, the risk vs rewards was in balance, you got good loot from mobs on the way, and did so often. I could go on and on, and I'm biased since it was my first MMORPG, but meh.

I tried EQ2 for a week or so and just didn't like the feel of it, didn't feel like EQ2 to me, felt like EQ-Sony-2 to me. I really have enjoyed Vanguard so far, but am weary about the interaction that seems to be taking place between Sigil and Sony. Oh well... guess I'll never really get that nostalgic feeling back from EQ. Just gonna have to keep killing time waiting on Warhammer as that seems like it will be a fun game.

It sounds like a good expansion which fills in most of the blanks of people screaming 'We want <blank>' on the forum... new race, new high level stuff, new low level stuff, new level cap.

The only place where I think this expansion fails is no new class. They should have added the beastlord class. It's funny how everyone says they are copying Eq1 but then they turn around and beg for a beastlord.

I'd like to see class branching come back. My monk started as a fighter, became a brawler, then became a monk at level 20. It'd also be nice to see some specialized classes at say level 40 or so. For example, the monk could become a Muay Tai master, a Kung Fu master, or a Karate master.
