New Entry Level Nikon Has Swivel Screen

nice. hopefully this pushes canon to add it to their "60D"... or rather, they should have been thinking that from the start given it makes the video feature far more useful (so would better AF...). Tho, I doubt it. Maybe in their T2i.

All I'm hoping for on the 60D is the same 15MP sensor with less noise. I could care less about video. And yeah, better AF would rock.

The new Nikon looks interesting; probably nothing to get excited about. What's that "SCENE" option on the dial in pic 1?

As much as you might not care about video, it's going to happen. It's where they are moving to in order to sell more to the consumer. Eventually, it'll probably be trivial. I for one would like it just because of the creativity we get with our lenses. But yeah, not a sticking point.

The swivel LCD tho allows for me to get some interesting angles that I usually have to shoot and pray. But again, not a deal breaker. I'd just like to see canon get off their high horse =P

And the SCENE thing is probably just different presets for beginners.

We'll probably see the D400 before the 60D. The sensor for the D400 is a complete unknown; at least 15MP (to play the numbers game with Canon), CMOS made by Sony. Maybe Sony will finally update the A700 this year, too.

Sony have already said that there will be new Alpha bodies over the summer.
The A700 is still a great body & (at least in the UK) is pretty much at it's cheapest ever - ~ 50% of the price of a D300 but with about 95% of the capability.

Nice! Back in the day when LCD wasn't good, I din't care about swivel screen but now that the screen is bigger and quality is good, I'd really make a good use out of it.

Kudos to Nikon, and I'm a Canon man. But the real question is: What's with the Pirate getup?

OMG, would you stop pimping Sony for like two seconds.

1) I was adding relevant information to an earlier post
2) it is a great body & certainly imo for my needs the best vfm. Yes, it's due for replacement but then by the same reasoning so is the D300 & the D40 is waaay overdue.

I think it's impossible for you to refrain from babbling Sony. I'm sure you try, but somehow insanity takes over and you and the evil you start fighting. Clearly the evil you kicks your ass.

The NIkon P90 with swivel screen and 24X optical zoom does get my attention. I had the P80 (18X zoom) and replaced it with a Canon SZ10 IS. A big negative for me on the Nikon was the very layered menu system. A separate menu for every mode. Canon is more "together."

The swivel LCD is really good when shooting in a crowd. I can hold the camera high and frame it accurately with the swivel viewer.

Now that DSLRs have live view, a swivel viewer would be awesome.
