New Enermax PSU stinks!

Literally! I installed a brand new Enermax 431W today and I noticed a strange smell in the room. Upon smelling the air coming from the back of the PSU I noticed that was where it was coming from. I know that monitors can smell for a while when they are new so I am hoping this is normal? Everything seems to be working OK, it doesn't feel hot or anything. Just the electronics "burning in"?

Had mine...350/whisper model for about a week now....I can still smell the "electric smell..."

i put a gauge on the inside thinking it was getting HOT...no was sitting at 22.5c for about 3 hours..

i got two last week and neither smelled...one was a whisper the other was the regular 431

Who did you buy it from? I have bought some boards for my computer in the past which just reekedfrom the companies warehouse.

I had a generic that smelled up my Apt for a week, then finally died. Opened it up and found remnants of a resistor desintegrated. and an inch of charring around it. I've bought Enermax since then. 😉

I have bought and installed several cards that had a peculiar smell for a few days but it always turned out to be industrial solvents or such like. Some were quite strong. Most electrical burning smells are pretty acrid and distinctive. There is nothing quite like the aroma of burning PCB's in an old fluorescent lamp ballast.

Try these Bad Boys, the Turbo cool. I just installed mine today and can now oc/my 1 gig to 1.45 at 1.8v, Replaced my Antex 303 which my 1 gig only did 1.388 at 1.825v

Maybe it's just a "new" smell...it appears to have faded a bit now, the PSU does not feel especially hot or anything, and all is running OK.

How long should I give it? A week?

It's probably not a good thing to breathe the fumes from a burning PSU.
