"New Efficiency" free Windows 7 copy = 32bit only

I went to the Microsoft "New Efficiency" Windows 7 launch event in Philly today. The event itself was fine. The three sessions were interesting enough. The second two had some hilarious software demo technical problems.

They gave us our Windows 7 Ultimate as we left. I got home and opened it and it's a 32bit version only. No 64bit DVD and no 64bit version on the disc (2.3GB size if I recall correctly).

I went with my brother and his GF and they were there basically just to get a 64bit version (he's got an i7 with 6GB of RAM), so they were pretty pissed and didn't realize it until after installing it.

I don't know if they're doing that at all the events or if they will be sending a 32bit version copy to people hosting Windows 7 Launch Parties, but caveat emptor. I'll be going to a friend's launch party so I'll find out if nobody reports it here first.

Can you download an ISO off Microsoft's site of the 64bit RTM and use that? Or would there still be some trial period and expiration?

It's good to know the key works with the 64bit version, but there's still the problem of getting a copy of the 64bit code. And I personally like to know for a fact my OS wasn't tampered with by unknown third parties if you get my drift.

Torrents are actually for the most part, clean. Except the only RTM ones are pre-activated I think. Try eBay? Probably like $5 for an install disc.

I was told by a MS person that they didn't have time to make 64-bit disks for this event, so they went with 32-bit. No plan was mentioned to deliver anything else.

As noted, the Key should work with a 64-bit disk if you can locate one. Your friend should presumably have a 64-bit disk. I can't imagine a Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition package without a 64-bit disk.

I would expect we can order the 64 bit DVD from MS Replacement Media for a few $$ once they start making them. You would just need to verify your license key, like they do on the Vista 64 bit media order page.

If you download the 64-bit iso just make sure the sha1 hash matches and you will be fine.

In Boston, they only have one developer session from 9:00 to 11:30. Does anyone know if need to go to the afternoon one to get Windows? They afternoon ones are for IT and I am not interested in IT stuff.

the signature edition's package will only contain the 32bit install disc. However, microsoft is also including a 64bit install disc... in a separate sleeve, if memory serves me correct.

The only retail ultimate ISO I was able to obtain listed a build number that matched the 32bit build number... which was like 16835 I think? or something close.

I also attended one of these events and yes, the key works on both you only need the media.

At the Phoenix event, there were people who went to the morning event but not the afternoon and vice versa. When you check in in the morning you got a yellow piece fo registration paper you used to claim your DVD at the end (of the morning session) and the afternoon session got a blue piece of paper (which you got at the end). There was also a key for Norton Internet Security 2010 in the paperwork.

Not true in Phoenix. I spoke to some manager lady who took email from a bunch of us and she said she would try and find out if they can send a 64 bit DVD, and didnt promise anything. In our package was one 32 bit DVD.
