Just got this email

RE: You've got a payment

Hello <my real first name>,

This is David *******, we recently were involved in transaction on Ebay.
I also work part time as the US affiliate of a German company - Reichelt Elektro,
and I'm writing you because I need an Ebay member, that is frequently online,
to fill in for me for about five weeks, while I'm on vacation.
If your schedule allows you to work one hour a day - weekdays only, and
if you could use an extra income (7.5% of the transactions) please let
me know.

Sincerely,
********

(he inserted a real US address)
123 Main St
City. KY Zipcode
United States

Whats the deal with this? Anyone else get something like this? FYI, my last ebay transaction was in March.

If anyone could be fooled by anything like that they need to close their e-bay account and give a retarded chimp control of their finances because they're an accident waiting to happen.

Sounds real to me. Send him your info. No one ever gets scammed off ebay. They are the most reliable site in the world. Paypal is also extremely reliable when settling conflicts.

That is fairly well written. I still wouldn't even think of contacting that guy, but it's a decent scam attempt compared to other ones I've seen.

I didn't fall for it. I don't think it is real. I was just surprised at how well written it was compared to the usual "Greetings and Salutations of the day" scam mails I get.

I'd be tempted to play along to see what his next email is.

I got this same email yesterday, its from a guy who I actually did buy something from and I received it and everything, so I wasnt sure if this was a legit offer or not. Venkman, did you actually buy from this guy too?

So I played along and replied with this:

I might be able to help you out, but what is it exactly that I would be doing?

and he replied:

I'm leaving on Tuesday, the 14th of June, and I will return on the the 17th of August.
If this should not interfere with your schedule, this is what the job entails: The distribution company that I work for - Reichelt Elektro - has extended its retail business (electronic products distribution) in the US market and like most of the European merchants, Reichelt Elektro uses an affiliate payment processor for US orders that are paid with bank wire.
Basically, here is what I have to do for each order: First I am
notified when they receive an order and the customer chooses to pay with
bank wire transfer - the amount and date of the payment. After the
buyer has completed the payment to my account, I have to confirm the receipt so Reichelt Elektro can ship the product.
Then, after the payment has cleared, I keep the 7.5% (my commission) and
I send the amount due to Reichelt Elektro (total order amount minus 7.5%) by Westernunion/MoneyGram or Postal Money Orders.
Of course, you will keep the entire commission for the period that I
will be away, should be about $500 per week, depending on the company
sales. If you think you can handle it I can ask Mr. Roitmann - the
manager, to send you full instructions.
Please let me know at your earliest convenience, I want to settle this
before I leave.

Thank you,

Then I replied:

That sounds like something that I could do, but I'm just confused as to why you are asking me to fill in for you. I just don't want to get scammed here.

and he replied with these two emails:

I asked 5 people 2 have their own shops and cant handle it and 1 is going on vacation too , 4th are you , 5th didnt reply yet Let me know if i should tell the manager to contact you with the details Thanks!

? Can you let me know ?

What do you guys think? It sounds way too good to be true, $500 a week for 5 weeks for working one hour a day on weekdays.
