 Need new 'puter asap. Here's my full list. Please don't hesitate to comment with suggestions. I am not a gamer or an overclocker, tho I may get into some older games, like Madden/Nascar to see if this old geezer (61) is up to it. Tough to fill all this retirement time!

Questions: E6850 better than Q6600 for my uses (normal aps, videos, audios, dvd's and some gaming? Also, plan to use my original XP Pro disc, pre SP 2, and then download all updates. Have key code, but can I get new CD with SP2 and updates for free?

Should I get a front panel control for fans?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16811999171

And how about HD coolers and GPU coolers? Necessary?

My dying 'puter I've had for 6 years running 24 x 7, & I'd like to duplicate that type of reliability here. Thanks to all here!

If you want the machine to last 6 years (or even more then 2) then the q6600 is a better choice over the e6850.
Front panel controlers can be useful, but if you arent overclocking it might be better just to get slower/quieter fans to start with.

You newegg link for the system doesn't work (it goes to your newegg account so it needs a username/password).

start with onboard sound, if it doesn't sound good enough then get a card, but in general most inexpensive cards don't sound significantly better then onboard, the difference is in cpu usage and features (though some onboard sound has issues with noise due to where the components are on the board, so some companies (asus,dfi...) separate the onboard sound to help with that).
