All the stupid CGI effects make E.T. look dumb now. Why ruin a great film with bad CGI? No longer do we get to see the classic neck extension and eyes widen when lil Drew screams, instead now we get a computer generated E.T. and his expression. The model was good and the movie was good beforehand. Disappointed doesn't even begin to explain my emotional state right now.
 
Oh man, And I was hoping that they wouldn't do this to the movie. It will never be as good as the original if they screw around with it like that. Man, this will surly make me stay home now.

Just a heads up that E.T.'s dvd release will have 2 versions...this new special edition plus the old version with no CGI or changes. 🙂
 
I hear they air brushed out any and all guns in the scenes with the cops..now they have clip boards and flashlights or something.

Yep, Stevie kept the WTC in AI but took the guns out of ET.

um, i remember watching et as a kid(not at the theater) and et looked %#@ mechanical and pretty much a joke to me, so i think any improvement is a good thing. maybe your memory is colored by nostolgia😛 scenes like where et was fleeing were totally bogus, you saw his glowing heart fly by like it was on a track, now it actually looks like he's running😛 i could care less about the guns, its the #@% director, he can do wtf he wants. the guns aren't intergral to the story, they just get changed to walkies. the dvd will have both cuts anyways. my next chance to see this in the theaters.... well lets just say i'm not waiting🙂 its still gonna be an entertaining experience.

as fofr the cg neck extension and eyes widen, well he basically does the same thing, but less mechanical thanks to cgi😛 less et automatic car antenna neck = good thing. plus they just didn't go around totally cgiing et everywhere, wherever they could, they used the original et..well parts of him🙂

wait until you see the enhanced movie before you judge😛...

I think I am gonna see it anyway, but that is kinda annoying that they changed it. NO GUNS?!?! That is really lame, guns are cool!! 🙂
 
um, well yea, because many younger people have not had the chance to see it in the theater😛 its not like they can do this with any movie😛
 
well i finally got to see it and judge for myself. its not bad at all😛 the cgi makes him more believable, and its not all that noticable. Its only when ET dies that you kinda see how fake the original model looked(they didn't tweak that part at all it seems), rubber painted whitish..that part was a turn off😛 but still it was interesting seeing all the 80's cars and fashions, 80s popculture(little things like 80's style coke🙂 ) nice and perfectly clear on a big screen. The new scenes aren't bad and lend more life to ET, help push it away from the midget in a rubber suit feeling😛 drew barrymore was a cute little ah heck, course in the back of my mind i kept thinking she grows up to marry tom green🙁 hehehe, but its funny hearing her talk since she sounds totally the same🙂
 
I took the g/f to see it on opening day.. she LOVED it, and she's watched it countless times since she was a kid. She managed to catch every single added scene. 😛 This was my first time (that I can remember) seeing it all the way through, and it looked fine to me. I thought it was a great movie.

I knew that was Eleniak there. She's got some horrible eyebrows workin' even back then. I'm glad she learned how to use the tweezers cuz she might as well have glued some big furry catepillars above her eyes. Oh well, she looked good in chasers and on baywatch and other things. Does anyone know if the Harrison Ford scene was added in? I'd like to see him in it.

yup, some people only watch films like resident evil and then complain about lack of original ideas😛 its like come on, theres tons of good stuff out there, waking life, momento, requiem for a dream, etc etc etc.. for some different examples. If you limit yourself to supporting only crappy movies you have no right to complain😛
