new DVD burner didn't come with software

I guess I am out of touch. I just bought the NEC 16X from newegg, and didn't notice until I got it that it didn't come with any nero or anything. What is the best free program for burning?

NERO is really good. It came with my Sony external DVD-/+RW DL drive, and both my Liteon DVD-blahblah drives. It's a bit complicated to me, but if you can work around that they're great.

Is it free now?

You should have got the NEC burner that came with software bud. I just bought the NEC 16X burner also from Newegg and made sure I selected the one that came with the free Roxio DVD burning software. I don't know of any free burning software but if your going to have to pay I heard Nero is good. I am using Roxio because it came free with my burner and I like it too.

Did you even read my post?

Did you read mine? I don't think there are any free DVD burning software so quit being cheap and buy one. Read my earlier post, it might help you choose.

Roxio is terrible, go to Nero and download the free version of Nero. Easy on calling people cheap, some people don't have the money to go out and spend $50 on burning software.

Triforceofcourage:

Sure, that would have been smart, be the point is he already bought it before you posted your first post in this thread. So the point is moot.

daveshel:

Just go and buy Nero 6. With a nice burner, good burning software just becomes compulsory.

I got my NEC burner today and am using nero. I love this drive, it's so fast and quiiet. sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo quiet you dont even know its working or not. w/ my old lite on drives it sounded like an aircraft taking off

I've had good luck with CD Creator but haven't had a chance to buy Nero. I bought the same NEC burner that you did and I knew it didn't come with software. I almost paid the 15 more for the Sony 16x DVD burner with Nero 7 retail bundle since that would have made the drive basically free since it is an 80 dollar program.

The NEC was slightly better in a couple aspects though, i'm glad I went with it. Bought 2 of them actually

nec maybe japan or taiwan made, that's why their better and quiet. liteon is china made and it's pretty lousy imho, hence why its cheaper.

I must be in the minority then. My nec 8X didn't work worth a damn and its sitting on my desk as a coaster. Wouldn't burn a disk that my PS2 would read and would only burn a disk that the xbox would read on one brand of dvdr.
Went back to a Pioneer and my problems were solved.

i just got my nec 3500 a drive today too w/o any burning software. if worst comes to worst i'll spend the extra $8 and buy nero, but as far as watching dvd's go, what's the best (free) program to use?
