Okay...I want to know a few things about OC'ing a Duron chip, so help me out, k?

1. I just bought an Abit KT7A-RAID mobo for $90, and I wanna put a good OC'ing Duron on it, as this mobo can OC to hell, I understand...What's the best Duron for OC'ing to 1GHz?

2. What kind of cooling do I need to worry about? I'm not an extreme overclocker, so I'm not looking for Peltiers or watercooling...just good aircooling to maintain stability? Right now, I have a setup w/a Super ORB, the PSU fan, a fan mounted in the front, a fan on my Radeon, a fan on the KT7A board, and a super slot cooler, and I just got a second fan for the back of the case...Would I need more if I'm gonna OC?

3. I heard that Duron 600's and 650's OC amazingly as well...but if I bring them up to a GHz, can my air cooling keep things stable?

Help me out people!!! Thanx in advance!

You got a terrific price on the KT7A RAID :)
Well, Check out Overclockers.com's CPU database to see what speeds people are getting out of various Durons
I've got a 600, and it hits 980 (140x7) on air cooling, but any higher and it's not stable. I run it at 900 though, just to be safe :)
So if you can live with not having exactly 1GHz you could take a chance with a Duron, since they're so cheap now. But I recommend you go for one of the 1GHz Tbirds at the moment, since they're priced right under $100.

Even though you are not going to do anything 'crazy' I would recommend that you get a high performance heat sink/fan unit. If you don't mind the noise, get a recommended unit with a 38 cfm delta fan. And also get a spare 26cfm fan for replacement in case you would like to quiet it down a bit. If you get the HSF that I have you can mount two 26 cfm fans on it and get slightly better performance than using the stock delta fan. All this without the extra noise of the delta. ;) :D

Ok guys...thanx for the help on the OC'ing...now I've got a choice of buying a Duron 600 for $23 shipped, or trying to hunt down a Duron 750 for about $30...but it's all about the cooling...what are good affordable HSF units for a Duron? I've got that Super ORB, but I still can't put it on b/c of the hugeness of it (it pushes capacitors and such...) Can a Mini Super ORB fit on that board? Are there any better coolers for around the same price ($15-20 shipped) LMK...

I ran a 700MHz Duron at 1054MHz for a few months, using a Cooler Master DP5-6H11 HSF. Imagine what I might have done with a really good HSF. :Q

Okay...thanx for the info, but I wanna know more on a cooling fan...c'mon AMD soldiers...represent! :) BTW, I just got this Duron 600 for $20, and I wanna know if it's good for OC'ing:

Duron 600, blue core
AKCA stepping, which runs at 1.6V stock

How far you think I can get this thing w/a better HSF? LMK...

On the cheap, try a Global Win FOP32/38 or a WBK. They should work well with a Duron. If you want to go all out a Glaciator or Swiftech. All of them will fit your motherboard.

If you want a great heatsink, get a Thermalright SK6. If you want top-rate cooling, combine it with a Delta 60mm fan. (It's loud but it works!) I ordered my combo from plycon.
