Was it a brand new motherboard?

I've installed the new drivers and they work like a charm. Before using the 169.44 drivers I was getting a 3DMark06 scores of 1100 or so, now I just got a score of 12184. I haven't done any overclocking yet :).

System Stats:

Xeon X3110@3.0 Ghz (stock)
GA-EP35-DS3P
OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB(2 x 2GB) 4-4-4-15 PC2 6400
EVGA 8800 GTS (G92) 512MB (670/1944/1674)
2x750GB Samsung
Antec TPQ-850
Vista Ult. 64

Everything is working like a dream now :).

Good To Hear !!! Yeah that Antec was one of the PSU's that was effected..

Most of the High End PSU's were made by CWT....

But it was a driver issue as I originally thought...

It took a while before I had time to reinstall my Corsair VX550 and test this out. I'll echo what the others have said:

Windows XP
With 169.28 drivers: Power Sentinel warning every time the system starts up, 3DMark06 scores around 1100.
With 169.44 drivers: No power sentinel warnings and 3dMark06 scores now around 11800.

The drivers do indeed solve the problem. It was a frustrating wait, but if the rumors about the new 9800's turn out to be true, it looks like I will get my money's worth out the GT.

*sigh*... I now have this exact problem, but with a 9800GTX. The systems is completely new, the PSU is a Corsair 650TX and the mobo Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS4.

There should be more than enough juice, but up pops Nvidia System Sentinel and says that there is not enough power... I have tried updating the drivers, even testing nVidias latest beta driver, but no change. Anyone who has any suggestions? Any other who has had the same problem with a 9800GTX?

Welcome to the forums!

It's generally considered bad form to "resurrect" an old thread like this, instead create a new thread and insert a link to the old one.

Anyway, please provide a bit more info so we can help you. What drivers are you using? Do you have the option of testing either a different powersupply or a different video card with your system (to see if you have an actual hardware problem)?

Thanks Deni !! You are a Class Act !! I appreciate you helping the guy !!

I will try to help also... I have dealt with the issue when I first Busted EVGA's Balls, and Contacted NVIDIA Directly.

EVGA was mostly worthless.

There is probably nothing wrong with his hardware, it is a Driver issue.

We need to know the Vid. card MFG., and what drivers you are currently running, and/or tried !!

I'm subscribing the topic and will try to help.

Thanks Mr Fox! I knew some people would probably be irritated when I resurrected this old thread, but I thought it was the best one for the topic.

The GPu I'm using is a MSI nVidia 9800GTX 512MB (http://global.msi.eu/index.php...at_no=130&cat2_no=136). I checked MSI:s homepage to make sure the BIOS was up to date, and no problem there. I have tried a set of different drivers but no difference. Currently I'm using Geforce release 175.16.

I did try the msconfig trick and turned off the Nvidia services. It killed the Nvidia System Sentinel, but it did not improve performance, the card was still downclocked.

Try Downloading this Driver : It is 169.44 for XP... (x86)

http://downloads.guru3d.com/Fo...it)-download-1874.html

Be sure to completely uninstall the prior drivers, and try this.. POST back ASAP... we can figure out that it is the drivers, and then you can spend some quality time with NVIDIA Level 2 tech Support....

Unfortunately 169.44 doesn't work with 9800GTX. The installation wizard only says that "no compatible drivers were found".

Maybe there actually is a problem with one of the 6-pin connectors. Unlikely since it is brand new, but maybe... I have an adapter so I can turn 2x4 pin into one 6 pin. Might be worth a shot.

...and that didn't work either. Damn, I'm tempted to just return the card and get a HD4850 instead.

I totally agree. Especially with off-the-wall problem like the one in this thread.

So this problem is resurrecting itself again huh? That's great. Looks like everytime they add a new card to the line-up they're going to have to come up with a fix for this issue and add it to the drivers. Hopefully it's something else, but it doesn't sound like it.

That would be another way to fix the problem, and it would be a lot faster than waiting for a fix from Nvidia or MSI or the Power Supply manufacturer.

Just last week. The system has been up and "running" for two days, so no wear & tear on the hardware.

It's bought from a swedish place called datorfixarna.com, it's a reliable place.

Now I've tried taking the thing out and putting it back again, just on the off chance that it wasn't properly placed in the PCI slot... Lo and behold, no change. Tomorrow I'm contacting the retailer about a refund. I've had nVidia in my last 2 builds, but now I'm switching to a HD4850.
