Hi Guys,
I just saw this link at PC World:

Domain Names

Read it and tell me what you think about it. Would it be a good thing to buy one of the domain names even though it is not certified by ICANN? I purchased a couple just to be safe, and it's real new so the good names are still there.

What do you think?

Oh goody, just what we need, more TLDs.

I think mp3.com is enough, I don't think we need an entire ".mp3" TLD...same would go for family, video, and free. Man, if this isn't pandering to the lowest common denominator, I don't know what is.

<< New.net has reached agreement with EarthLink, Excite@Home, and NetZero to ensure that the 16 million customers of those Internet service providers can reach the new TLDs. >>

looks like ony certain people will be able to reach these doamins.. no one serious will want to reach a partial audience.

breaking standard = bad

<< Internet users who are not customers of those ISPs have to download a plug-in to their browser to activate their access to the new TLDs, he says. >>

Granted, there would probably be a delay (the browser would have to contact a special DNS server), and there will always be a group of people who won't install it out of fear of privacy or changing or succeeding at anything, but it won't alienate anyone.

Hopefully a lot of isps get on the bandwagon and start using their services so that it will become widely available to everyone. The hard part will be to get all the countries to accept these new domains.

If anyone is buying these hoping to make a killing, you'll probably be dead before they have any value.

But, it is damned nice to see somebody sticking it to those dicks at ICANN.

Words of wisdom! I agree totally. IMHO with all the TV advertising and the familiarity .com's are still where the $$ is for quite a while
