I'm moving in a couple of weeks and plan on getting a dog from the pound. I'm not trying to hijack your thread or anything but can you, or anyone else, give me some advice here? It will be an inside dog and it will also be the first inside dog I've ever owned. Do I need to limit myself to puppies or is it still fairly easy to house break older dogs?

what are you looking for?
all dogs in urban america should be inside.
older dogs if house broken remain house broken normally....
however if you are gone 8+ hours a dog can't do it. Can you?
8 hours is pushing it....give a doggie door to a fenced area.

Fingolfin269 - When I adopted my dog he'd been running stray for at least a few months that I know of and he was just around a year old. Only took a couple days to get him trained to show he needed out instead of aiming for a lamp, though it was a few weeks before he quit eyeing the lamp. I probably got lucky, but I wouldn't have any reservations about adopting an adult dog again.

No fence. If dogs can't hold it for 8 hours I guess I'll get a pet rock.![]()

i think 8 hrs is a bit too much. i had a dog back in high school. he was home alone for like 6 hrs. mom would walk him when she left for work (after i left for school) and I'd walk him when i got back from school around 3. He'd run outta the house and do his stuff as soon as i opened the back door. You could tell he was holdin it in
