New display Options

I'm in the market for a new display and wouldn't mind some recommendations.

Right now I'm gaming on an older 1920*1200 TN with sub par colours and brightness.

Some specifics of what I'm looking for are:

At least 24" size and at least 2560 x 1440. I'm running on a 6970 atm but will upgrade eventually (read: as soon as I have a reason to). 30" is too large to fit on my desk, 27 is likely fine and 24 with that resolution is probably dream land (the reason I've waited so long to upgrade my display).

I'm heavily leaning towards picking up a U2713HM the next time it is on a nice sale (which as I check seems to be right now...). Anyone have one (or more) for gaming and general use? The only reason I have not picked one up is my hesitation to possible input lag and I have no idea how larger input lag will affect me. I don't game as much as I used to but it is certainly something important to me, just not a lot of twitch gaming.

Any input is appreciated. Price is not really an issue, I just want to know what options I have for nice multi-function display. If i get a new desk (and space...) maybe even some play time with more than one of them :).

I would be torn between getting one nice display like that U2713, but then I keep thinking about how for the same price getting dual 27" 2560x1440 displays like the Microcenter Auria, Monoprice, or Nixeus (or even the ebay Korean catleap etc.).

But if you are less price sensitive, what do you think about the 30" 2560x1600? I would enjoy having the extra vertical pixels, but the price for me is too darn high compared to the 27" 1400p options?

I'd live to stay with the 16:10 aspect ratio but for my desk a 30" would just be a bit too large. A new desk is not immediately on my list of required things (not until I buy a bigger house anyway). I'm also sure there is limit my partner is will to put up with as well... She is a good sport about these things usually though :)

I've been also tempted to go with the less expensive displays but the IPS in my thinkpad blew my mind when I first turned it on and still does when i crank the brightness.

Unfortunately a lot of the options just don't seem to find their way to Canada. :(

Just bought an Achieva Shimian Lite 27" 2560 x 1440. Gorgeous screen and so far haven't noticed any dead pixels. Delivered $335. Barebones on adjustments but incredibly nice screen.

These are those Korean dispalys that you can pick up on Ebay?

I've gotta say that I'm nervous about them but they sure are a lot less expensive than anything I can get from a retailer in Canada... You could quite literally buy 3 of them for the price of a premium 30" over here.

I realize the lower price means there are some sacrifices but are there others in addition to the lack of warranty support, more likely dead pixels, and limited adjustments? As in, is the panel as fast and with as wide of a gamut as the displays from retailers over here that cost $600+?

Are you sure? The 30" is hardly wider than the 27" exactly because of the aspect ratio.

Actually worried about vertical space on the desk as I have some equipment on shelves behind it. 27" 16:9 (any maybe 16:10) would fit under it, but 30 would mean I'd have to have the monitor sitting farther forward than I'd like (considering my eyes already hate me enough as it is). But shelves can be moved if my heart really finds an unbeatable 30" I simply must own.

I'll be sitting pretty close to it though as it is, and i think I'd rather go for the best pixel pitch I can that takes up the space I have.

My panel has no dead pixels that I can tell. It has an On/Off button and UIP/Down brightness arrows. All else is controlled through your video card. I'm amazed by the clarity and response time.

I moved it to my OC'd FX8350 rig with a PNY GTX680. I'm having a blast playing Crysis 3 in 2560 x 1440 resolution. Color is amazing!
