Hi all,
Hoping to get some help with advice for a new display from the smart people that frequent these boards.
I am in the market for a new display. My main requirement is that it is at least 27"
I currently own one Dell U2412M which I have been very happy with. My graphics card is a GTX680-DC2O-2GD5 (ASUS GTX 680 DirectCU II) but this is due for upgrade shortly. I plan to stick with an Nvidia graphics card when I do upgrade.
I am a fairly big gamer, though I don't play many FPS games (e.g. CSGO) other than Player Unknown Battlegrounds. That said, other than occasional screen tear on the Dell, I haven't really noticed any issues using it for gaming, which may say a bit about me and my standards.
Based on this, I am not sure if I need to get a 144hz monitor, or if it is worth the extra cost if i've been happy enough with the Dell. However, if there is compelling reason that I should go for that type of monitor, I am not shy to spend the extra cash. I have been looking at the PG279Q on the higher end and not sure I necessarily need all those features. However, I also fully appreciate that monitors are an investment and is something you are going to be staring at for the next 5-10 years so it is worth spending extra if warranted.
I also own a new macbook pro 15" and liked the look of the Dell S2718D as it can charge and video/audio with one cable. But I heard the input lag is noticeable over the U2412m and i'm not sure how it would go for gaming.
What sort of things should I be looking for in a new monitor in 2017?
I appreciate reading my question and any tips/suggestions/advice. Thanks a lot!
Edit: I see that I should add details of the new graphics card to this to help. I am thinking of spending up to 1k AUD. Looking at probably something around the 8GB GTX 1080
