these stats swings are freaking me out , a couple hours ago we weren't in the top ten teams, now we are #3

uggghh , i wish i could stop looking at them

i didn't follow the beta stuff really close, but i think later generations can take some time, thus the reason for higher point values of later generations

I keep walking in here to check on the client's progress and it seems like they are totally bogged down.

Finally, I became totally impatient with one of the machines and decided to re-install just to see if it was bad luck or something......

then I notice the other machine is just kind of sitting there looking at me.

So I go read some more posts at F-DC and realize.... hey Sid, they're supposed to do that :Q

I'll be curious to see where I find them in the morning.....

Great to see ya back CS! and a boost from Confused too? Thanks guyz!!!!

Thanks! Its good to be back :) (and good to see the TeAm in 3rd place!) Btw, I just checked the stats and I noticed that stats are in points instead of structures, how are the points calculated?

I believe the points are sqrt(gen#), but I could be wrong :p.

howard is going to add a FAQ soon to explain the points thingy, until then, you could probably glean it from all of the beta client posts on the DF forum, me , i am going to wait for the cliff notes/FAQ

*Edit*

also, you don't want to do a reinstall, that puts you back at generation 0 which is worth only tiny points but takes a few hours or so, stick with the slower , but more point rich later generations to rack up the BIG points

Hmmm...I did a fresh install, figuring its a new phase, a new client and should be a new install. I'm currently 60% through Gen10. Btw....

WE'RE NOW IN 2ND PLACE!!!!!!!

And a BIG CONGRATZ to nsmmxx for being in third place overall!

I think there is going to be some luck involved in the points.

after running through the night, I have one machine at generation 63 :D and the other machine is at generation 11

Actually, I kind of like the mystery..... waiting for "the one" ya know!

i meant once you install phase II, i didn't mean don't do a fresh install to get phase II started. i was referring to insidious having phase II clients that appeared stuck. sorry for the confusion

I haven't seen anything in DFGui other than the curent generation and the number of structures. Have 2 machines that are offline crunchers and this will drive me crazy!

Hey everybody, how much memory is the new client taking up for you? Mine is taking 36MB and I'm on gen 30, does that sound right? The last client used well over 100MB.

JetBlack, in this line in foldit.bat:

.\foldtrajlite -f protein -n native -rt

Make sure you add the -rt option. It's not in there by default and that tells it to use more ram.

This client seems to fluctuate a bit from around 90mb to 129mb.

bunker, yeah I have the -rt there but it still seems to stay at 25MB. Actually, nevermind I restarted the service and now it's 88MB :D

i am also seeing about 90-100mb

sometimes a restart is what it takes ;)

on this offline thing, i think it will be like christmas all year long
if you run many off line boxen and don't find out your points until you upload, it will be very exciting :D

and i am thinking if you wait until at least one complete 250 generation run is finished before uploading, you could be talking about a major butt ton of points per boxen

it could make for some DPC type ultra mega dumps

does dfGUI display it? otherwise, i have no idea

well it's displaying generations buffered that's it but I don't know how many points those gens are going to make me.

Just found a bug in the dfGUI too... If your running the command line client along with the dfGUI and you choose to start it 'hidden' the dfGUI will have a status of 'appears to be running' but if you look at your task manager's cpu it's obviously not running. So I can't trust the command line client started in hidden mode when booting into windows now, but if you start it visible then you can just click on 'hidden' and it will continue to run hidden untill next log-in or reboot when you just have to hide it again.

Another thing I just noticed, I have two identical computers dedicated to DF they are exactly the same, same case cpu mem hd ect. they both have a running time of 19:09:07 give or take a few seconds but one of them is 11 generations ahead of the other.

this is actually "normal" for this new algorithm

i think we will see wide variations in the time it takes to complete a 250 generation "run" between PC's , both fast and slow

the reason is that once the "Run" starts , each subsequent generation is based on a 'best' structure from the "0" generation (the first 10,000 structure generation that is basically a phase I generation) , so a given PC may end up taking 1-2 days to finish a "Run" while a faster PC could end up down a totally different path and take 4-5 days to complete the "Run"

i.e. its a feature , not a bug -> higher quality data vs. masses of garbage (what the phase I client generated)

Same experince with two, identical computers here too.

(I kind of like the luck element of it all!)

it will be very interesting to see how this comes into play in the overall stats

i am a little afraid that it will favor (non-linerally as in phase I) those with more boxes

but it is probably like buying more lottery tickets, each ticket has the same chance to win, you just get more chances, not a "better" chance to win

or sumptin

I think the lottery analogy is the best one here.

If you talk percentages, of course it is better for the guy with lots of boxes because if one is stuck it is only a small decrease in percentage of his output.

but if you talk straight numbers, it is the same for everyone... one stuck box is one stuck box.
