Hi there:
Just a simple question really: This morning I swapped in 2x1GB of Corsair DDR2 RAM intoi by INtel Pentium D 920 based desktop in place of the old 1GB stick of Kingston. Everything went smoothly and CPU-Z reported back detection of 2 GB DRAM. However when I took a look at Windows System information, it still says Pentium D 2.8 GHz system and 1 GB of RAM. Any body knows why this is so? Also shouldn't System be reporting back less than 1 GB in the original configuration in any case? ANd in the new setup, it should report sligtly less than 2 GB? What am I getting wrong here?

Thanks for your help!

Mike

If you've got four memory slots and two sticks try switching them around into different slots and see if that helps.

What motherboard (model) are you using?

Hi: It is one of those ASUS lower end P5VDC-MX board that has 2 slots for DDR and 2 slots for DDR2. I have used up both DDR2 slots
in this configuration.:)

Scroll down to your owners manual specs. It states you can't mix RAM types.

Hi:
No, I didn't mix RAM type. I used the 2 slots for DDR2 memory and left the other 2 slots empty. :))

Thanks a million! That thread you referred me to is very informative even if it doesn't help to solve my problem. Why can't they make RAM detection a bit more versatile and user friendly??
All this fuzz!!!

Again Thanks!

Have you tried clearing the CMOS? And, does your MOBO support the density of modules that you are trying to use?
