New Dell Web Database Server running MS SQL (what do you think?)

Hi guys,

We have a Dell PowerEdge 2550 thats on the way out, anyway we need to replace it. I was asked to spec out a new system, and just wanted some opinions:

All of our servers are Dell, so we have to stick with them as we have corporate discount and like their service. I look at the HP Proliant with AMD Opterons, but they won't be available quick enough:

Also does anyone know of any Dell promotional coupons with savings? Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks

James

P.S. It has to be a rack server, no towers.

I just went with the same server here almost the same config you have picked out there, it's wonderful. The HP's are also very nice machines though.

I am not sure what we paid, but it wasn't that much for the Dell system. We did not have a promo or any coupons. We do alot of business with Dell and we were given an added savings.

The 2850 is a nice server. You may want to considering using a greater number of smaller HDDs to improve disk performance since this is a database server (e.g. 6x73GB instead of 3x146GB). I don't think Dell has coupons for their medium and large customer accounts, since they have volume discount agreements. But, I'll bet you can get your salesperson to match the price on the same server configured in their small business store w/coupons. 🙂
