How could this be good news? Is this just a problem with Dell or maybe this is the final draw saying to stay away from the 8500. I don't know! What does everyone think?

This is really funny. You will be able to buy a R8500 at a lower price by that time somewhere else.

its obviously DELL trying to make you cancel your order. Why wait that long when you can go out and grab a 8500 from your local store right now? I have one and I paid less than OEM for a retail box with games.

I hate it when a company makes an error, and won't suck up and take it. I guess its easier just to screw your customers.

where did you get a retail version for less than you can buy an oem version right now. The oems are going for under $200. where can you get a retail version for that?

I ordered mine on 10/24:
Dell:

"Estimated Ship Date
--------------------
We estimate that your order should ship on or before 12/10/01.
Software and accessories orders will ship within 7 business days of your order.
Although we do not anticipate a delay in your order, we cannot guarantee the shipping
date because occasionally we run into unexpected delays in manufacturing.

We would not expect any delay to extend beyond 30 days from the date
of your order and if this should happen, we will keep you posted on
the status of your order. "

12/10?????? You've got to be kidding....

I hope it's worth the wait! :(

Well Dell has permantly lost me as a customer. I ordered the card on 10/3/01. They withdrew money from my account on 10/5/01. Now I get this crap email that it will be 12/3/01. That's 2 months!!!!!!! That they have my money!!!!! Well yes Dell did make me cancel my order, but they also lost my business forever.

Well at least they gave you till tuesday. I got an email today at noon that said I had till the end of the day today to contact them before they cancelled my order. WTF? Since when has dell automatically cancelled orders? I've never heard of them doing that. Luckily I got home at 4 to get the email--otherwise I would have had it cancelled because I was working and couldn't respond in a 5 hour window. I hate dell. Is there anywhere I can pick up a retail card for $250 to $270? I can't bring myself to spend $300 on something I could get in a month for $203. Thanks

Sith Solo i am in the same boat. I ordered on 10/4 and have never heard anything from them. I think i am going to give up. I might bite the bullet and go get a ti 200. I want a new cpu so I just do not see paying the price of the ti500. It is not that much faster but it is a lot more. Any oppinions anyone?

as I said, I got it from a local store. They won't offer it on the internet because its too new, and they really don't sell to anyone unless you're local over the internet either. Finding one good local store is better than all of the internet combined for buying new hardware.

I really wonder what's going on with Dell. I ordered about 11 PM on 10/2 and I finally received my 8500 yesterday. I'm not trying to brag, but I see others that ordered before I did and still have not received theirs... This is really odd. I feel kinda bad that others who ordered before me still don't have theirs :(

I was gonna hold out on this one until I got the card. This was until today when I received an e-mail from Dell saying that if I didn't confirm by the end of the day my order was cancelled. I'll NEVER order another thing from Dell if I can help it. Really, in these trying times, it's really ridiculous for Dell to lose customers by doing something this ludicrous. Oh well, I'm sure that both Dell and ATi have now lost a LOT of current and future business, I'll stick with newegg.com for all of my computer hardware needs!

Ordered mine on 10/3. I said id wait, pisses me off big time though..lousy sum b!tches. To think Ive actually referred three people to buying a dell before I started building them myself...oh well. Pretty soon my retail boxed XP 1700 will be coming (162 dollars shipped) and that will be the last component of the computer..besides the dumb video card. Debating about ordering the cheapest AGP video card I can so I can at least get it running and install the OS. Then when my R8500 ships I can slap that in place of the el cheapo I bought.

Either way you cut it, this deal sux! Only positive thing I can see out of it is, hopefully..the drivers will be solid and offer some improvement on performance. Probably just wishful thinking, guess I should be satisfied with good IQ and playable/solid framerates. Now im babbling...time to shut up. ;)
