You can almost never upgrade video cards in a laptop. ATI and nvidia were talking about making a technology to allow that, but I never heard it actaully being used in laptops yet.

Actually you usually can in the largest non-XPS Inspiron models. It can depend on the screen you have though - some of the video cards only drive certain displays. I don't know about the 9300 specifically, but I've upgraded the video in Inspiron 8100, 8200, and 8500s for people.

This totally sucks because you're forced to modify their starting systems, one of which is a Celery; one only has the Intel graphics; the last forces you to take a 3 yr. warranty. If you want a better LCD panel, you've got no choice but the WUXGA screen - you can't have the WSXGA this way (unless you do Intel video) If you want WinXP Media Center, you're forced to overpay for 512MB RAM instead of adding after-market RAM for much less.

Inspiron 6000D
Intel® Pentium® M Processor 730 (1.60 GHz/2MB Cache/533MHz FSB)
Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
15.4 inch UltraSharp WUXGA LCD Panel
512MB DDR2 SDRAM 2 Dimms
64MB DDR ATI's MOBILITY? RADEON X300 PCI Express x16 Graphics
60GB Hard Drive
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer write capability
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 Internal Wireless (802.11 b/g, 54Mbps)
Corel WordPerfect word processor only
Digital Music Musicmatch® Jukebox Basic
6-cell Lithium Ion Battery (53 WHr)
Limited Warranty, Services and Support Options 2Yr Ltd Warranty, 2Yr At-Home Service, and 2Yr Technical Support
CompleteCare Accidental Damage (except NY and FL) SAVE 10 %! Add CompleteCare Accidental Damage Svc to 2Yr Lim Warranty

TOTAL:$1,117.00

With tax, shipping and a $75 coupon I have (make good for a screwed up order), the bottom line is $1,121.55 (sales tax blows), more than I was in the mood for. If I could change the display and make a few other changes that would get it near a grand, I'd prolly move, but for now, I'm gonna have to pass. :(

Thanks for the deal! Just got in on a 6000 for my brother-in-law as a graduation present. I was debating between a 9300 and 6000 because of the video options and screen, but the 6000 seems a better value and the x300 128mb is about equivalent to the radeon 9600 pro, which is pretty good for gaming.

Does anyone have experience with the average window you have to modify an order if you would like to make changes? Thanks!

If you're going to modify your order I would do it soon like FRIDAY 7/15.

Also make sure by modifying your order that you still receive your $750, because it may fall off.

What config did you get and what are you considering modifying?

Bought a 700m on June 29th, saw this deal today and it made me sick to my stomach =/

Went and configured it came out 400 less with the coupon then what I spent 18 days ago. I went ahead and purchased this laptop again anyways and put in a request for a return on my current 700m. If all goes well I'll come out 400 bucks ahead (minus shipping to send the current one back) Gonna call DELL in 4 hours and get a head start on my RMA # and making sure I get a full refund

Can't believe these laptops went this low

If only Dell accepted paypal. :( If i transferred the money into my bank account the coupon code would be over before it mattered (Don't have the paypal debit card yet)

I have the paypal debit card, but no money in my account. :( I decided not to wait for this $750 off $1500 deal and just buy a Gateway w/ celery. Wish I would have waited. :(

I ordered an i6000 with:
1.6 gHz PentiumM
15.4" XGA widescreen
256mb RAM
40GB HDD
128MB X300 video
8X DL dvd burner
6 cell battery and extra 9 cell battery
1 yr at-home warantee

The only thing I was considering changing is the hdd size (to 60gb) and dvd burner to cd burner (or some config to get close to $1500), just to save a few dollars if necessary because I'm doing this together with my brothers-in-law as a gift. Since I just went ahead and bought it before telling them I was going to buy it to make sure I got the coupon, I was curious about the window of opportunity to change it. I think I'll be leaving everything as-is, though, because it's a pretty good deal.

Thanks for getting back to me quickly about that, Rossman!

swishsween call dell at their toll free # and talk to one of their reps. they'll ask for an order # and then you should be able to modify your order. trust me, they aren't going to say NO to more business as im sure this deal puts all of these laptops below cost to begin with

Sigh. I wish Dell would build laptops once again with serial ports. That is very important for some of us :(

VERY nice deals, nonetheless.

Just too bad for me the 600m is such a POS, according to every review I have read on it. And also the battery life isn't supossed to be so good either.

Good luck to everyone else!

How often do these 750 off 1499 come up? I'm going to college in a month and a half. Should I wait?

Also, does anyone know if Dell will ever incorporate the Mobility X800 or 6800 Ultra in the non-XPS models?

The good ones which are $750 off $1499 only happen 2 times a year with no evalue exclusions. There are others but they aren't as good. I'm guessing the next coupon should arrive around October. This is Dell's end of quarter, I would order now.

Dell is really wierd lol. I got the 9300 I ordered a few weeks ago and then saw this deal. I could get the same laptop I have now with 2yr warranty and complete care. I called to see if they could just add it on to my existing laptop they said they can't so I am returning the existing 9300 and ordering a new one. Would have saved them money if they just added it to my existing laptop.

just packaged my 700m and shipped it off with an RMA # too =p

It's stupid they should just credit my account with 400 bucks would make it easier for everyone, but I guess their system doesnt work like that...now they have to sell a used laptop while I am purchasing another one which has to be way below cost =)

Haven't they had about a half dozen of these $750 off $1499 deals in the past couple months?

Correct but 95% of those have had e-value exclusions limiting your options like forcing you to buy 3 year warranty, no SXGA upgrade option, etc.
