New Maps, New Strategies, New Experiences, and New Achievements From the Creators of Defense Grid
Defense Grid: Resurgence is the first premium expansion for Defense Grid: The Awakening and is made up of 8 new highly polished and balanced maps from the original creators. Each week in June over four consecutive weeks a new pair of maps will be released providing new environments and strategic experiences and requiring new ways of thinking to beat back the aliens and protect your cores. Each map pack contains 2 maps each with a campaign mode and 4 additional modes associated with the design of that level. New Steam achievements and high-score leaderboards are associated with each map pack.
Defense Grid: Resurgence Map Pack 1
Service Interruption and Height of Confusion
  • Two new challenging Defense Grid environments are the first two released in the Resurgence DLC. An obstructed road to the core housing gives the aliens a significant advantage in Service Interruption. Choose your towers wisely! Height of Confusion has a wide open surface, making for endless possibilities! Build anywhere you want in your defense of the power cores!
It is 79p here so I can only guess that it is $1-2 in US cash.

Anyone jumped on this yet? :)

Quite a nice game, and while I haven't played in a while I'll buy the expansion just to support the devs.

great price point. the original game was already worth .99 more than I paid, so no qualms dishing it out for some more content

I'm glad to hear the devs are still supporting this game, it's one of my favorite TD games!

There are actually 4 map packs (2 maps each) priced at $1 each that will be rolled out during the rest of june. They have good early feedback on the forums, but I'll post my feedback later for each map pack.

Map pack 1 has one subpar map (Service Interruption) and one stellar map (Height of Confusion). Height of confusion is simply a large grid where towers can be placed anywhere, and exactly the sort of map that I really missed having in the original.

If you like Defense Grid, then Height of Confusion is definitely worth more than $0.99 on it's own even if you don't play the other map at all.

I also wondered why they didn't have a map like this in the original, just a big flat grid. Oh well, glad I have it now, and the price was right.

I read on one of their dev boards that they have considered releasing a map editor. Which really sounds intriguing, but would also mean tons of horrible maps. :p

Arrrrgh, I hate those massive grid maps, because I'm too stupid to figure out an optimum path-o-death. :)

I saw this, but I feel like if I wait a month I'll be able to buy them all together for cheaper. Don't know if I can hold out though; I was just playing a bunch of Defense Grid a few weeks ago.

i jumped on it, that grid map is awesome, they really need to add grindfest mode to it though.

Yeah, the lack of grinder mode is a definite shortcoming. Apparently, it's due to it being cross-platform. Grinder modes are very hard on memory, and they don't want it grinding the 360 to a halt. Unfortunately, they decided to leave it out of the PC version as well for uniformity.

I recommend trying it yourself first at least a couple of times before you look at anybody else's strategy. Tower placement in a TD is pretty much like a walkthrough in an adventure game - a great resource once you've tried it yourself but if you go to it first the game loses any challenge or fun.

Map Pack 2 is out and it's pretty good as well. I liked the first map better this time (concentric circles) and there are some fun decisions about where to put your support towers.

Somewhat off topic, but I wonder how they can make any sort of profit what so ever when the DLC is only $0.99 and you have to factor in the (potentially heft) credit card fees.

I would suppose that a Publisher/Developer pays Steam some sort of fee based around advertising, bandwidth expectancy and a few other factors then they set their price on the back of that.

I wouldn't expect Defense Grid: The Awakening crew making much on these map packs but 2 maps for $1 represents cost effective DLC's from both our and their point of view, more word of mouth business (positive stuff through threads on forums like this) and gives us as consumers positive fluffy feelings that they care about us enough to provide more support for a game once it's been released.

Personally I haven't played much Defense Grid since I got stuck on the final mission a long time ago (I pre-ordered the game when it came onto Steam) and I am intending to purchase each of these map packs to support the developers and a bit more fun when I get the time to go back to it :)

That final mission gave me some issues too. I finally DL'd the map, put it in powerpoint and played around with different tower placements, tracing out the resulting path. It was really sort of fun figuring it out.

I never finished the original game, but just started playing it again in an effort to avoid work, have some fun and finish the game.

So are control towers worth building? They net you 25% of resources within their zone, but I'm not noticing anything great from building one.

They're awesome if you setup proper "kill zones" on the map. Generally, I build a lot of Cannon and Tesla towers in a specific area, then put a Command tower in their vicinity to grab the extra resources. The rest of the map has Meteor / Cluster (I think that's the name) / Laser towers to soften everything up.
