New Dead Fans. Is there anything I can do?

I bought 10 new NMB fans off of Ebay a few years back. I don't know why, but I never got around to trying any of them until now. I guess I assumed that they worked. I went to try one recently and it didn't work. Tried another and it didn't work. None of the fans ended up working. They're brand new, but none of them work. Is there anything that I can check on the fans to try and get them to work or should I just pitch them?

I wish I would've tried them when I bought them because I would've blasted the Ebay seller for selling me 10 dead fans.

If they're dead, there's not really anything you can do.

Have you tried them all on different headers/molex plugs? Even straight onto a 12V battery?...

What wires are you connecting to what? What does it say on the fan labels re. power requirements, etc., and what model are they? It would be very, very unusual to find a whole batch of NMB fans that was bad. Pix of the lable and connector on the fans would help.

First thing that comes to mind is a) they're 24v or b) AC fans. Gotta check the part number.

Here's a photo.

I bought some of these fans from SVC years ago and fell in love with them at the time because they were so quiet and so cheap. What I didn't know at the time was that SVC was blowing them out and no longer carried them. I ended up finding a seller on Ebay with them. He had 10 available and I bought them all. Since I already had some, I didn't use them right away. I should've at least tested them. I tried them on several mobo headers and they didn't work. I could try them hooked up directly to a power supply with a 3 to 4 pin adapter, but I figured that they were dead because my previous NMB fans from SVC worked fine on the same fan headers and they are the same model as the dead fans.

What I think that the seller did was put up all his dead fans on Ebay. I don't know why he'd risk getting all those negatives though because he could've had 10 different buyers for the fans.

What do you guys think?

That was it! I can't believe it! You just saved me from pitching 10 good, quiet fans. :D I'm so glad that I decided to post here instead of just pitching them. I felt kind of stupid about posting this thread at first because I thought that a dead fan was a dead fan, but now I don't.

I looked at the "bad" fans compared to the "good" fans and noticed that the wiring was the same at the fan itself, but the black and white wires were crossed (red wire in the middle) on the "bad" fans at the 3 pin connectors. I took a small jewelers screwdriver and carefully removed the black and white wires from the 3 pin connectors and reinserted them the way that the "good" fans were wired and viola! I now have working fans. :D

Thank you Mday! Have you run into this before? Do you think it is a screw up when they assembled the fans or is this the correct wiring for some other application?

Yup, a lot of fans you find on eBay aren't specifically PC fans, so you always have to check the way the connector is wired.

Even if it's a computer store selling the fans? The fans look identicle to the fans that I purchased from SVC only the white and black wires on the 3 pin connectors are switched around.

BTW.. I want to thank all of you. I now see mention of checking the wiring from others. I just wasn't listening.
