New DC project?

Well, it looks like there's a new DC project out there; TiVo Crack.:Q It seems the TiVo users are trying to crack the "backdoor" password that unlocks a boatload of features. Clients are availible here, and a whole explaination here.

not trying to be a wet blanket, but are there any legal/ethical issues to this? is this a code people aren't supposed to know?

distributed cracking/warezing doesn't seem like a Good Thing , or am i misunderstanding what this code is for?

I would be extremely careful of this people, sounds very much to run afoul of the big nasty DMCA. I'm surprised becasue the E-mail adress is coming from someone that appears to be aat MIT and surely would realize the consequences of trying to "break" into a Commercial product.

I don't know the legality of the procedure(Heck, I only posted it because I found it so odd), but I would believe this falls under such things as using the code to get in to an Apex DVD player, etc. Enabling extra features on something you already own.

Hmm, think I'll stick with Folding@Home for now. 🙂

Don't want to run afoul of the DCMA (even though I hate that POS legislation) :|
