New Crucial 15% off link

<< I just hope that I can still buy 256MB DDR for $25 🙁 >>

Huh? What kind of comment is that? RAM prices will NEVER hit that low this year, so of course, you won't be able to get it at such ridiculous price.

I just hope that I can still buy 256MB DDR for $25

Man, I miss the days of cheap RAM...

:disgust:

In fact, it looks like they raised their prices again by about $2 on the 256MB PC2100. Glad I bought it last weekend.

How much better is Crucial? $40 better? Also, is there a hug difference between types of Crucial 2100 DDR? Meaning, if I can buy a stick of 256 DDR 2100 for $63 rather than $90, what should I look out for?

thx for this...wonder what happened to anand's discount. mem prices go up so now ur actually saving a bit of money with this discount, and then it disappears, lol.

I wish someone would answer that Q for me to -- I do not want to spend the extra $40 for no reason on my cheap Dell Computer I just bought.

Crucial prices are way to high now it seems. You can get ram that is the same quality for cheaper it looks like. I mean DDR is more than RDRAM, than you know something is wrong.

Ram prices make me want to puke. Seriously, they are way too high. I was looking through some estimates from last November(i build systems for friends/family on the side) and saw $18 for 128pc2100 and $29 for 256pc2100....arghhh....%&#@!

edit: thanks for that link 🙂

If your not looking to overclock (in which case, depending on the o'cing method, you would need PC2100+ (i.e. PC2700), the only real differences (aside from registered/unbuffered & ECC/non-parity) are the timings. Crucial DDR is CL 2.5, while some of the higher-end and more expensive RAM is 2. The cheaper stuff you are looking at could be higher. Anyway, my Crucial has been running at CL 2 for months without any problems.

Man, 512 went up $13 from the last time I checked 🙁. Thanks a lot for the new 15% off, I was getting annoyed that the old one ran out before I got the chance to use it. Maybe it would have been about the same with the 10% off and the lower prices anyway though. Oh well.

I just checked Newegg to see their prices and it looks like you could save a couple bucks if you want to buy from then for some types of crucial. You gotta pay for shipping for newegg though so its pretty close.

yeah i regret not buying more ram at those prices now that i look back. most of us dont realize that it was pretty much the hot deal of the year.

Yep, many of the memory manufacturers were actually losing some money making the sticks, thats why several of them either shut down the factories for a while, or slowed down on the production. That reduced the supply, and is part of the reason why the prices are back up again right now. Fortunately I bought up some spare 256 meg ddr from crucial and 4 or 5 of those circuit city ddr's that were $40 when I saw them. So now I have some for a new box or two 🙂
