Creative seems to have finally done something right with their drivers (knock on wood). Install went smoothly (uninstalled and Driver Clean'd) and the new Audio Console is much cleaner as far as integration and use.

Thanks for sharing, this update slipped right past me.

I then reinstalled all the software, my creative audio console works fine but noticed with the fresh install of the sound card drivers it doesn't install the creative speaker settings option so I'm without that but I just use the windows master volume, treble and base settings, not sure if this is right that I don't have THX adjustments and such but I don't get any errors.
I'm glad you got that resolved. To get the advanced speaker setting panel from Creative, you just need to install from the CD you got with the card. I did the same thing to get the speaker settings panel, the equalizer, the surround mixer, and the audio stream recorder.

I own a set of Klipsch promedia 2.1 speakers and a set of the high end logitech z-560 system (which I have setup as 2.1 only at the moment)

I have to say that I far prefer the logitech speakers. The Klipsch speakers just sound dead to me. Not that they sound bad, but they deffinately dont have the fullness of sound that my logitech system has. Of course this is a completely different level of speaker from logitech than originally compared. Both will drive the systems to window shaking levels far beyond what you'd normally need for a PC setup. I guess like most speaker setups, its highly subjective once you get past a certain quality point.

Can you tell me more about how you soft-mod a Audigy Pt eX to a 2ZS?

I have this older version and I am trying to install it on XP with the current drivers forom the Vreative web site. Is there something elsse I need to do?

Thanks,

Steve

i uninstalled all my creative stuff, and did a clean install of the new drivers and i seem to have all of the speaker settings and cmss stuff and all that in the new audio console. i like this new driver, so much cleaner than the mess from before.

edit: i don't have the equalizer but i never used that anyway.

With the older driver sets, by patching the newer drivers, it unlocked the Audigy series to run as an Audigy2. After all, the cards physically are virtual clones. I'm not sure if it applies with the unified set though.

Just for fun I installed the newer set with the patch to compare and got 5.12.8.1164 as the driver number, with a date of 12/08/2005.

The old patch file was/is called ctcomp.exe. It was easy to do, and has worked for mine for several years.

Yes but you do have the basic tone settings right? Even I generally do not need to use the equaliser or even the tone settings, but sometimes...

I have just been able to correctly connect the A2ZS to a receiver and 5.1 speaker system through analog so I also need the sub management settings. Are these also there? Otherwise though it may be cleaner, things are working fine and I may not bother to update.
