I am about to put a new CPU in my computer, what is the correct procedure for doing this? Simply unplug old one and plug in new one? Thanks for your help.

Depends what cpu you had/have and the mobo!!!

If you have a slot a Athlon all you do is set the mobo to autodetect and swap the CPU's over, this can be done either in the bios or by jumper on the mobo itself..

If you have an older P2, depending on what mobo you have, you might have to set multiplier jumpers on the mobo or set the multiplier in the bios - even though they are multiplier locked.

If you have a Super socket 7(K6) processor, you'll have to change the mutilplier on the mobo and maybe the voltage aswell.

If you need specifics then give some more information.

I have an Abit BX6 rev. 2, which has the softmenu, I just flashed the bios to the latest revision. I guess all I have to do is change the multiplier settings there? I am installing a P3 600, 512k cache, any idea what settings I should use? Previous processor was/is a 300a Celeron overclocked to 464.

Take a look here

The P3 600 has a 6 multiplier x 100MHz FSB AND a 4.5 x 133MHz FSB version aswell..

If the cpu is a P3-600 the use a 6 multiplier x 100MHz FSB, if it's a P3-600B then use 4.5 multiplier x 133MHZ FSB.

If you take a look here

Both the P3-600 and the P3-600B has a 2.05V voltage so that's the voltage you need.

Good luck.
