I recently updated a Intel 865G board from a 2.4ghz celeron to a 2.8ghz p4 prescott.
The rest of the components:
WD 60gig HD 7200RPM
Radeon 9800 PRO 128mb (ati official)
1024 GEIL DDR400 in Dual channel
After I updated the cpu, my video games have become very jumpy. In games like Doom 3, HL2, and Guild Wars. Even when I am running at 50fps, i still get this jumping that looks like lag on a MP game. Its most aparent when running in a First person shooter, starring straight at the floor. Normally this motion would be smooth, but now i have periodic jumps. This has gotten so bad in CS source that I cannot even play the game.
I have tried the following:
More powerful PSU (a 450w max)
Reinstall all games effected (including manuyally deleting leftovers from games like cfg files)
Reinstall video card drivers
Remove all spyware and virus's
Check CPU temps
Check for CPU throttling
Changed memory configurations (what slots, single or dual mode)
Running games with the computer case side off
Additionally, I have also verrified that this mainboard does support all the hardware I am currently running.
I cannot check my video card temps, but the heatsink is very hot to the touch, it doesnt burn, but it gives your finger the sensation that it is going to, so it has to be close. It's even this hot with the side off. Other 9800pro owners have stated this is normal.
Plus, the 9800pro was fine with the old CPU, the celeron, so it couldnt really be that.
Any help would be great. DxDiag says Dx9c is perfectly fine, but should I try reinstalling it? What else should be done after a major hardware upgrade? My 3dmark03 score is not effected by this problem as it doesnt actually lower frame rates in any way. How does that make sense? Could it be the monitor??
Can someone who knows about a problem like this seriously consider what it may be.
Thanks for all your help in advance.
