The prices on the 144/146 are the same as they always were, and they mean nothing.

You still won't see them available anywhere in any quantity, and you still won't see any 144's or 146's going for anywhere near those prices. As has been noted a lot, those prices are:

...for direct AMD customers in 1000-unit tray quantities

Why would they make the Opty 165 cheaper than the 3800 X2 again? Not that I'm complaining because I'm not but just seems odd that they raised it higher than the 3800 X2 only to turn around and make it cheaper again.

Yea sorry, didn't want to rain on the parade here. It's just that the prices listed there have caused a *lot* of headache, as a lot of people mistake those prices with the MSRP, then get upset with us retailers who aren't charging that price. What they don't realize is that our wholesale costs can be MUCH higher than those.

I just want people to realize that those prices are great, but they only apply to huge builders/distributors who buy them at least 1,000 at a time, directly from AMD... and I don't think any of us here fit under that category :D

freakin vendor pussies! :p Can't shell out:

$125,000 for some 146's or $278,000 for some 165's

If you can't run with the big dogs, better stay on the porch with the pups ;)

j/k of course....

I heard from both anand and tom AMD negotiates prices with each vendor , unlike intel- that it's not set in stone at those 1000 unit prices.. Unless times have changed I'll continue to beleive that since they talk directly to AMD.

Not that it matters really 144 and 146 are still fantastic deals even at close to $200.:)

My 146 price is a dollar higher. Just to put things into perspective, my wholesale cost on the 146's right now is $211.11 which is clearly nowhere near the "Official" AMD price :)

I'm really not sure about this new pricing scheme. I haven't seen any changes in distributor prices at all yet, so I'm pretty confused, I must admit.

Your'e 146 pricing is very good Tank, nice stepping too. If someone needs a 146, there is currently no better deal...

Someone is making a huge profit if they sell the 144/146 for more than $135. I'd just wait for the price to come down. As always, AMD is trying to prevent the little guys from driving down the price of these popular CPUs.

Profit? Sure, but the user is also making out like a bandit too. The 5 Opteron 146's I've owned and tested all hit 2800 MHz relatively easily. That is stock FX-57 speed for a fraction of the price.
