New cpu, P4 2.4C will it bottle neck my system?????

Well my current cpu a p4 2.8b fsb 533 isnt cutting it when it comes to demanding games like doom 3 and cs:s. The game tends to pause alot with high detail for cs:s but with low details it rarely pauses. I dont want to turn down the graphic settings esp with these new generatino of cards that should be able to handle teh demaind easily. I recently purchased 4 kingston hyperX ram ddr 400 timings 2-2-2-5 256 for $44 a piece. I have a feeling that should fix some of the pauseing.

But i am looking forwrad to upgrading my system to a 800fsb so i can really get the full potential out of my 6800gt. I am thinking about getting a p4 2.4C 800fsb, yes i know a amd 64 cpu are better but i want to keep my mobo an abit is7 because its only like 6 months old. I will oc my cpu, i have read that since the multiplier is really low on the p4 2.4C, poeple can oc up to like 3.4 with no problem, and still have a really high fsb. I was wondering if this would be a bottle neck to my system, the P4 2.4C.

Hey u got a good system already. It should handle it fine. Have u updated your catalyst drivers?? If u do want a new CPU get 3.2GHz.

I would say that a HT CPU will help alot. 2.4c at 3.4 is can be reached if you have a good one. I would say the 3.2 range is very reasonable on stock vcore with air cooling. You will need some good memory like pc-4400 to reach that kind of FSB though.

I have kingston hyperX ddr 400 256mb on the way, so you saying with the newer ram upgrade that i should be fine and wouldnt have to update my cpu????

Yes i have undated my ddrivers since i did installed my newcard. I removed teh old drivers with component uninstall then driver cleaned them, then installed the latest drivers

2.4c can be run at 3.2c realiably depending on the stepping.

I defy you to bottleneck this chip. You might do it, but will have a hard time doing it. If you want the best chip, go sl6z3. If you are buying retail from newegg chances are youll get it.

I suppose I'm biased, but it seems to me that going from a 2.8b to a 2.4c is a step in the wrong direction. For God's sake, if you really want to upgrade go for an Athlon64.

The "C" adds hyperthreading. You were simply looking at the clock speed, which, as previously mentioned, he plans to run at 3.4c.

Yes teh only real reason, is that the fsb of my 2.8b fsb533 is killing me in games. Inaddition when there is a big memory dump from closing a game or hugh applicatino my pc will run extememly sluggish for a little bit when starting a brand new application after closing the previous. A fsb for 800 would hope fully fix this problem.

Also i am not upgrading to an amd 64 is because i want to reuse my mobo, i am trying to save up for the next generation of and 64 or until nforce 4 comes out.

Oh one question, oc a 2.4C will that give close performance to a 3.2C. Or does the artichture of teh 2.4C hold be back beause its not really a 3.2C

The chip is the same. In fact, when overclocked it may even surpass the 3.2c performance wise because you a running at a higher fsb. The trick will be to obtian a stable overclock at all times. Finding the right cooling and voltage, memory ratio, etc. The question is where will the chip be the most stable under stressful conditions? 2.8, 3.0 or 3.2?

I think 3.2Ghz is pushing it to hard 3.0ghz will be ok i think but you cant run the memory 1:1 cuz it is pc3200
you need at least pc3700 or pc4000

3.2GHz isn't too hard for a lot of 2.4Cs. It really depends on the motherboard. A good motherboard will get it to 3.2GHz and possibly beyond that.

2.26B newer steppings will OC to 3.7 on air. It's basically a 3.4 because of it's multi when bus running at 800mhz.. Should go real nice 1to1 with that KHX2-2-2 running about 215Mhz FSB.

That's what I'd get. $115...and order from newegg to guarantee high levels of newness.
