new cpu fan

quick question im getting a new cpu fan soon. i have a 3800x2 witha a stock heatsink and fan. what do i use to clean the cpu when i take it off. thanks

And when you are done wiping the grease off, spray it with some component duster to make sure it dries out.

Isopropyl evaporates FAST. There is no need for that.

thanks guys. another quick question. when im putting on the artic silver....do i just put a few drops on the heatsink and let it spread out when i set it? thanks

I apply the thermal compound then take a plastic bag and cover my finger then spread it out on the chip, this is done to avoid the oils from your finger.

thanks everyone i got the fan on no prob
well one more thing, this is the fan&heatsink i got and the fan is only running at 1095 rpm is this normal for this set up?

btw it knocked 10 degrees off the temp and runs very quiet

also i am getting a warning that my fan speed is too low. but that shouldnt matter as long as my temp stays good?

it is a 3800x2 and it is running at 35c idle and 45 under load

I have had fan warnings based on which connection I used and all I did was go by the temps so I dont think that will be an issue.

No. You place ONE drop the size of a grain of rice on the center of the CPU. Fasten the heat sink and your done. The AS5 will spread out itself with heating and cooling cycles.

You do not need to spread it out yourself.

I have done EVERY aftermarket CPU, GPU fan the same way for years and never had an issue.

Nah, don't worry. The HSF will generally push out any excess paste that you may apply with the spreading method.
