Hello,

I put my computer together this time last year, and I purchased a Volcano 6 cu+. It works fine, but it's too loud. ANd I know that theres so many better fans out there, but I don't know what to choose. Should I stay with the Volcano line or switch to something else?

Be more specific.

What CPU? What Motherboard? Do you want quiet operation, or best air cooling possible?

I am assuming you have a Socket A based motherboard based on your previous purchase... I have yet to hear anyone commend the Volcano line of coolers on their quietness. So, if you want a quieter heatsink, I suggest staying away from ThermalTake. ThermalRight, however, has a very impressive line of coolers, from the cheapo SK-7 (which cools superbly) to the high-end SLK-800 (which is arguably the best heatsink on the market) and best of all, you choose the fan with all of them. I heartily recommend an SK-7 with either a YS Tech variable-speed fan (what I have, and it's great), or a low-speed Panaflo L1A or some other quiet fan. 2CoolTek has a nice selection a great prices.

I would try a simple GC68 or a GC69 from SVCompucycle. Cheap and they work great.

for low noise, i dont think that the slk-800/panflo combination can be beat. a little on the pricey side, and depending on your processor/overclocking, a gc68 may work just fine, i have a couple of those, and they are pretty quiet.
